Made of sturdy materials, this Abney level is designed to withstand standard wear and tear. It has the standard design of an Abney level, with the rectangular base, viewfinder, and spirit level to guide you in getting the proper reading. As with all Abney levels, the 780-00 is lightweight and small, making it easy to handle. It comes in a rugged pouch for protection when not in use. Both the pouch and the level itself come in a bright orange color making it easy to spot. And at just 5-1/8 in. L it fits easily into the palm of your hand. This Abney level measures both minutes/seconds and degrees for slopes and grades. Its low price point is another advantage of this level. Combine that with its ease of use, quality, and portability, this Abney level is the perfect choice to take simple, quick measurements that do not require the use of a more complicated instrument, thereby eliminating the hassle that comes along with one.

I have had an opportunity to practice and use this instrument for a couple of weeks now. In my opinion, this is a well made instrument for the price and works well considering the limited precision of the Abney Level design. It is made of metal and is rugged and the included case is adequate if not overly protective (I just wish it wasn’t so flaming red). Having a vernier scale for reading angular minutes is more than just a little bit silly because these small, simple instruments do not and can not support this level of precision and besides, the two scales line up so poorly, it is really difficult to read even the degree scale. It is possible to get a one or two degree level of precision, which is all any hand held device of this type and size is good for. The instrument comes with no instructions, cautions or explanations for anything including how to zero the bubble. I was able to figure out my own bubble zeroing method by placing the unit on a horizontal surface and simply rotating the bubble in its friction held mount. I knew what to expect from an Abney Level and this one certainly has met my expectations.

It’s simple and adjustable. Seems pretty rugged as well. Gets the job done without robbing the bank.

It is simple and intuitive to use. It’s solid and doesn’t want to break, and even comes with a case to protect it in the tool box. I feel it’ll last for years. It’s not very accurate. It only gets within 2 or 3 degrees. I’m thinking maybe if I hang it on a longer rod I can get more accuracy.

Easy to use very elegant. Precision is within 1 or 2 degrees. Well worth the money.

I love that it is accurate and precise in giving measurements. It’s sturdy and durable, as well. It gets the job done with ease and I couldn’t be more impressed. It came with a carrying case as well which is helpful to keep it in good condition.

This was great to use especially at an angle where I was able to properly align my pictures for hanging on the wall. It was so nifty and easy to use and compact. I am really happy to have this. Great design.

This small abney level is a great tool to have on hand to get quick estimates or to get a feel for where I should set up my equipment. I use it hand held so I don’t expect perfection but it has worked well for simple measurements. The pouch is nice to keep it protected in the tool box. Feels quality enough to last for many years.
