   For the money less then 40 bucks the unit does a pretty good job although a few ads that were scratched that seemed to need fixing the machine did not seem to repair them because after the repair I tried playing them and they would not play but most that I fixed did but what does one expect nothing is perfect

   I had my doubts at first, but decided to give this device a try. Had a couple of disks from a client that had a bunch of scratches in them. I started with the polisher and went progressively to the more aggressive wheels. The disk buffing wheels put these strange circular patterns on the surface of the disk but they took the scratches out, and the disks worked after that, i.e., they were recognized by my computer finally!

   Seems to work as indicated. Damaged discs improved but not completely, so the repair worked but probably need to run it a few more times. Instructions could be written better but still understandable.

   EASY TO USE…AND ACUALLY WORKS! I DID ONE REPAIR CYCLE ON THIS THING, AND A CD THAT I BURNED YEARS AGO PLAYS LIKE A NEW DISC. VERY IMPRESSED! I AM GOING TO BUY THE SUPPORT PACK, AND CLEAN UP A BUNCH OF MY MANY DISCS…I LOVE THIS THING!

   September 2021: This machine, and I’ve owned 2 over more than a decade, will often repair DVDs+CDs that scratches have made unreadable. The polisher-grinder works best with punched metal/aluminum discs. So the silver ones, not the grey or purple ink based ones. Those writeable ink based discs I’ve had less luck fixing. Never tried a bluray disc, nor a SACD only disc. Nor do I have a SACD player to play the DSD layer of the few dual layer CD/SACDs that I own. Obviously, the polisher won’t fix cracked discs, and it’s not very good with (rare) pits in the surface. With heavy use, these machines last approximately 7 years. You’ll run out of polishing compound, so purchase fine grit plastic polish from an industrial supply or boating supply house. When first plugged in, this most recent one of 3 didn’t start immediately. I imagine a capacitor has to charge up. (And I think I remember this same very brief hiccup occurring with the last one I purchased circa 2012. By the time I’d walked across the room and turned on my multimeter to test the still coil based AC adapter the unit was ready to start.) No, there’s no real point in keeping old broken polishers for parts. The internal specifications change a bit, and the gearing isn’t especially durable. However the user removable old wheels and polishing/grinding rings certainly work in newer machines. You may wear out the polishing/grinding rings. There is a kit with extra rings and ring holder discs–the part that threads on to the drive sprockets-and, as of late 2021, B+H has this extras kit. No, one can’t just order purple (green plastic mounted) grinding rings–the most important replaceable part–from Aleratec. Mostly there’s no point in just cleaning optical discs, that’s easy enough to do without this system. So you’re going to be repairing-polishing-grinding. Swirl marks (fine scratches) are left on the discs no matter how fine the grit used. But they do NOT degrade playback/reading. The thing that most needs replacing is the slightly abrasive fabric (either white or purple) mounted on the rings, but the fabric is not simple sand paper. It has fibers which can hold water and the abrasive grit (polishing compound) that you apply. So that’s why you replace the rings.
