This is only my second AMD CPU, having moved up from a 3600X. I’m thoroughly impressed. The heat levels are a lot less than other reviews claimed, as it peaks 74 degrees with a midrange AIO. It does really well when rendering and file compressing. I use it primarily for gaming with a 3080, and it works extremely well side by side with it. I recommend this CPU.

Upgraded from an old Core I7 3770K and this is lightyears faster, even with same graphics card (GTX 970) getting +30% FPS lift in most games. Photoshop and Lightroom work is also blazing fast. Paired with Asus ROG Strix B550 Gaming Wifi and 64GB TridentZ RGB 3200. The only issue is this runs hot (as others have pointed out). Originally saw idle temps around 50C and hit 90C during Cinebench R23 run with CM EVO 212. Tried undervolting by 15 counts each core but not much improvement. However, now cooling with BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 and installed a couple Noctua NF-A14 on the back and top exhausts with PWM adjusted to kick in when temps exceed 70C and can run Cinebench at max temp ~83C and it idles around 38C. Thinking of adding stronger intake fans at the front (case is Fractal Design Meshify 2). Bottom line, would highly recommend this CPU and worth the upgrade unless you are coming from only one gen previous. It’s super fast, but needs investment in decent cooling and planning out case air flow.

This processor destroys anything currently offered by Intel in terms of performance per dollar!

Can’t go wrong with 8c/16t. If you know you dont need the 4 extra cores, go for a 5600x.

I was lucky enough to hop on B&H doing my Daily check for a 3000 Series GPU, and found this Guy in stock instead. I’ve been wanting to go back to AMD, after having been very disappointed with the FX-6100 back in the day. I went from the 6100 to an i7 4770k then from that to an i7 8700k…so yeah been riding with Intel for awhile. But, I’ve been seeing AMD coming back in recent years. Then, I saw the Benchmarks for Zen 3 and was sold. I wanted to grab the 5800x. I’m not disappointed. I paired this Beast with the MSI coremag 360r or some such AIO. It keeps this CPU Temps around 40 degrees idle and never above 70 under load. I love this CPU. I can be proud to Rock an AMD CPU again.

This was an upgrade from a Ryzen 2700x. Gaming graphics card has been Asus 3080. This Ryzen 5800x CPU gave my games a huge increase in frames per second. BFV – 2700x Ray Tracing off, lowest settings = average 110 fps BFV – 5800x Ray Tracing on, high settings = beyond 144 (monitor limit) Metro Exodus – 2700x Ray Tracing on, lowest settings = average 80 fps Metro Exodus – 3800x Ray Tracing on, high settings = beyond 144 (monitor limit) In 2020 I had been converting old 8mm family film to digital. I can’t wait to see how fast it converts the files. I intended to buy the 5900x but most of my movie projects got completed during the long wait for a Ryzen 5K CPU. Since the more expensive CPU was no longer a priority I was thrilled to see this one become available. I had no idea how much my old 2700x was holding back my PC. The Ryzen 5800x is a huge jump in performance.

I knew it was going to be an upgrade but was surprised how much of an upgrade it actually was. Night and day difference.

So I have this processor and while I can agree with the guy who says it runs hot, it really doesn’t. We actually have the same cooler too! You have to set the power plan in windows to the default balanced plan or it will have temperature spikes. It’s what AMD recommends for these chips. also just make sure your case has decent airflow and you will be ok. After taking care of those two things mine behaves very tame and idles around 26c-33c and under stress tests doesn’t get above 71c. Highly recommend it too! I just wish they would have included Far Cry 6 with my purchase like other major retailers have, talking to customer service about it actually.

Some context: I upgraded from a 3700X. Before the 3700X I had an Intel i5-3570K. The 5800X performs much better in games than either previous chip. In games the jump from the i5 to the 3700X was mostly smoothness, less jitter from frame drops. The jump from 3700X to 5800X has been pure performance. I get higher FPS and tiny frame drops. Like when I’m playing a game with a ton of stuff on screen I can sometimes go from 144 FPS to 136 FPS for a second or two. In multi core workloads this chip is a beast, enormous gains over the older chips. If you are needing even more multi core performance you might want to consider the larger variants. The 5800X in performance mode does run hot, much hotter than the 3700X, not as hot as the i5 when it was overclocked to 4.5 GHz. I’ve got an AIO water cooler that does just fine but the fans run at a higher rpm then they did in the 3700X. I’m very happy with this chip for what I use it for.

Upgrading from an OC’d 6700k 4.5ghz. The i7 was bottlenecking my 2080ti on many titles at 1440p. The 5800x is finally putting my GPU to work. Runs a bit toasty with a Fuma 2 cooler. 40-50c idle 80-85c load. All within spec from AMD so I’m not worried. Highly recommended.

Other than being able to find this particular cpu in stock, it’s also a great option for gaming. Paired with 16GB 3600MHz RAM, and a Vega 64, I can play Half Life Alyx and Cyberpunk 2077 on max settings (no ray tracing) with solid frame rates. Bear in mind this cpu does seem to run a bit warm, I’m using a Noctua NH-D15 air cooler in a Lian Li Tu150 case and with prime95 I get temps in the 80s, however, in more realistic situations like gaming, I only get temps in the 60s. Of course if you can afford the 5900 or 5950 go for it, but if this cpu is in your price range it’s a great option.

Great IPC increase from zen 2 with speeds regularly above what the boost advertises on the box, normally 4850 MHz on most cores. Make sure you have a capable CPU cooler as this runs fairly hot with a significant work load.

While I hated waiting a month for this cpu after purchasing it, it has been a wonder product so far and possibly still ended up being the best way to get the processor as they are still unavailable anywhere. I game at 1080o and my frame rates have doubled using a 1070ti. As of right now, I have no regrets with this purchase.

Upgraded from 3700x. Very worth it if you have a high end gpu and want the most from games. You’ll want 3600 MHz RAM but I kept the 3200 already had and it’s still amazing for a single generation upgrade. Intel equivalent is like four generations for the same performance increase. The cpu is optimized to run hotter than zen 2. Clock speed difference is so much vs launch 3700x I had. This was good enough at 320, but I wouldn’t pay more than that. Zen 3 was overpriced at launch but remains an amazing CPU.

At the time, the best 8-core cpu on the market. Definitely can see the difference on my system. Everything is just so snappy now, along with superior multithreaded workload performance. Now with Zen 3, superior single core performance as well. So gaming is phenomenal. Really appreciate the pre-purchase option B&H provided before launch. Got the CPU before they estimated and was guaranteed one from the start.

Purchased this after several months of waiting trying to get a 5900X. Works as advertised, solid performance.

Handles multi and single threaded workloads effortlessly. Would buy again.

Despite the stock issue, it ships fairly quickly. And I wouldn’t blame it too much on B&H since I ordered it on launch day. I expected it to be that way. Great product from AMD. Zen 3 + x570 + 6800xt is a beast combination. 8-core is definitely future-proofing to me.

Bought this as a replacement after my 3700 crapped out. Shipping was nice and timely, and… It works!
