You would never current need this much processing speed for gaming or just lite computer use but it sure is nice. I can run CP2077, Valheim, POE and Terarria all at once while streaming with a google chrome tab open without studdering crashing or freezing. Kind dumb in a good way how good threadripper is.

Like everyone else, I was itching to get a ryzen 9 5950X for my workstation, but those are completely unavailable everywhere these days. The 3950X does a great job in its stead, regardless. My rust project compiles in 2 minutes (vs. 16 minutes on a quad-core macbook pro), which is more than adequate! I’m happy I got this processor, even if it wasn’t the one I was aiming for. It does run quite warm: I’ve got an AIO cooler (be quiet pure loop 280) attached, and when it starts doing work, you get temperatures in the 60-78C range (about 35C-50C above ambient). Be sure to have ample airflow and good cooling, otherwise you’ll run into thermal throttling.

New build still missing suitable GPU and suitable PSU, but the speed with what I have connected is mind blowing.,

Mine was purchased in January, now dead in November. No overclocking or overvolting was done, only the AMD automatic clocking functions were used. Tried on two different motherboards, but it’s just dead. What an incredible waste of money.

I used run into some many problems with video editing, then I got this bad boy and I barely make a dent now! Highly recommended!
