I purchased the UPS as a replacement for my wife’s computer. I plugged it in and it just works. I have had no problems with it and it has saved the computer over several power outages.

The product does what they say it does. But you shouldn’t have to read every support forum and on line manuals from different products to figure it out how to setup the battery backup. Take the time to write a good product manual.

I’ve used APC units for years — always reliable. For some reason I have had difficulty with the CD which will not run in my computer.

I would not be without the Back-UPS ES 8. I have one to support my laptop and desktop, with the other one monitoring my network, printer, and charging station. I am not a sophisticated user, but I know what works for me.

Set up was easy. I’m using the UPS to back up my DSL modem, wireless network router and weather station consol and uploader. I tested it out after setting it up and it worked flawlessly. For now it sit there, green light on, waiting to be challenged. Only complaint is there are not enough plugs to handle more than one transformer plug on the backup side.

I’m using this as a backup for my aquarium filter so I won’t loose fish for lack of oxygen in the water. My pump draws 1.8 amps and I have a backup generator but with the small interruption it didn’t always come back on. Now it never goes off. They offered and I purchased a 3 year warranty and after receiving ups I read that it already had a 3 year warranty. Guess I should of read everything first.

APC’s BE550G Back-UPS has been my staple product for dual flat screen users across my entire network. As a manufacturer of wire-welded products, in several different countries, the power grid is not always that friendly, not to mention what our welders can sometimes do to the power at a PC. The BE550G has saved users time and frustration countless times. This model has proven to be very reliable and easily serviced. B&H has always offered very competitive pricing with other online stores, a wide variety of products, easy checkout and payment options, quick order processing and fast shipments. B&H has always made my decisions a no-brainer. Thanks Matt IT Administrator

Good to know my electronics are on a safe power back up.

as expected. I would expect nothing less. This unit replaced an older unit that was probably 5-6+ years old. I purchased this unit based on the reliability and cost of the older one and so far all is good. I would hope to get at least the same service from the new one as the old. All-in-all, a good product at a reasonable price. I would buy another (and probably will when this one bites the dust).

I have used APC products for many years and have had a good experience with them, including this latest purchase. Only downside is it was a bit difficult to get the cords/hookups to stay in place when closing up the unit.
Virgil Kreiger (verified owner) –
The price was good and directions were clear on setting it up.

My new Back-Ups ES 550 protects a laptop, external monitor, & external hard drive on the battery & surge plugs. A printer & small speaker system on the surge only plugs. Recently had an ice storm that took out all electrical power for approximately 24 hours. When power went down the ES 550 allowed me to save what I was working on and power down safely. When the power was resorted, I was not home. I was concerned about any start up surges, but my system was protected and operational. Do not forget about the surge protection thru the telephone connections. I’m still on dialup service. I have had other APC ES 550 that protected me thru several past electrical storms in this area. A friend who didn’t have telephone line surge protection had her system fried. She had to purchase a new computer system. On previous APC backup systems, I have actually heard the system clicking on as power was interrupted with out any loss of data. It was a very quick (something I could not have reacted to)flicker of the lights that confirmed (I think) that the backup clicked on. As a commercial mentions (short of): don’t leave/use your system without one.

I am plagued with power outages indiscriminately and the APC-UPS keeps my computer on and all my data secure and safe when the power goes out so it can reconnect to AC within 5 minutes or gracefully shut down the machine. I own two units and have two computers on them at all times.

The APC Back-UPS 550 has just enough outlets for all my important electronics. It gives me plenty of time to safely power-down my Mac Pro desktop computer, 24 monitor and two external hard drives during a power outage. Plus, using the provided USB cable, gives you the ability to power-down the computer automatically during an outage.

This works as expected, and the battery recycle option to have it ship out was very helpful.

I have used APC battery backup and surge suppressor units for many years, and found them to be entirely satisfactory. I recycle old units with APC even though it is more expensive than buying a new APC unit at retail. (I often find units on sale locally for about 2/3rd the price at APC but then face the issue of how to recycle the old unit.) I recommend these units to my friends since in the summer in the South we often have powerful storms with lightning and power disruptions. I highly recommend units such as the Back-UPS 550.

This unit replaced an almost identical unit that had functioned well for several years but finally would no longer hold a charge. Battery replacement was an option, but I was offered a “trade-in” that was fair and reasonable. Set up is simple and power seems adequate for a home office computer. We live in a mountain area with frequent power outages, often very brief ones, so this unit keeps things going without interruption.

I like this new unit, it is smaller than my last backup and it seems to recover quicker also

I got a good deal from APC online for this device. I traded in a previous generation back up for this at a discount. APC took back the old unit for recycle at their expense. The ES-8 was plug and play with my new Windows 7 system. Like it’s predecessor it has performed flawlessly since installed.
