My previous Back UPS lasted 8 years; survived a power failure in New Jersey and one in California. Present replacement is fine. It would be helpful to mention that laser printers should not be used with this UPS, as they are very power-hungry on start-up.

These APC backup and surge protection units are fantastic. Just about every piece of electronic gear is backed up by an APC unit. The costs of these units are minimal, yet they protect gear that is much more expensive to fix, should stray voltage do some damage. We have about 6 of these APC units, not just this one. What are you waiting for? Just make sure to account for the wattage of the units you will be plugging into these, and add some extra wattage just in case you want to plug in some additional devices in the future. The way APC designs these, one side consists of outlets for surge protection, the other side for emergency back-up power. Eight total (4+4) on this particular unit. You will get many years of service from these long-lasting units. If a battery ever becomes inoperable, just call APC or go to their website and get a fresh battery; they will even take back the old battery and pay for the postage. How crazy is that? Smaller size and better runtime than my older 350. Easy hookup, mostly. The only thing that confused me was the RJ45 jack for the USB. I kept looking for the USB port until I really looked at the cable. Set up with my iMac was easy, configuration was even easier. Eight power ports is great. I still have a surge open.

Works fine. Easy open battery compartment, no tools needed. Haven’t tried the auto-shutdown software yet. I simulated a power failure by pulling the plug from the socket and then plugging in back in. Worked fine. Nicely packaged, all cardboard, no styrofoam.

I live in a rural area in Michigan which does not have the most reliable power utility service. I receive power from a cooperative, and am the next-to-the-last person on the line… seriously!
