This is just like the other three APC UPS products that I have. Open the box, pull out the shipping protector, plug in the battery plug the UPS into the wall and computer, then insert the CD. The software requires only following the prompts and you are finished. THis one installed on an old computer that I setup for grandchildrens games.

This is not a glamorous product – it just sits there under my desk doing its job. But it does its job. I live in an area with lots of lightning storms, sometimes with short power outages, and that is what this product is for. I have not had damage to any equipment that was plugged into this product, and in terms of battery backup, I often realize that there was a very short power outage due to the beep from the UPS rather than from lights blinking or the like – in other words, it response very quickly. Of course it is a “550” with limits on its UPS capabilities, but I got what I paid for and more. It is what I needed. I am very pleased.

I just got my third similar unit. I have used them for about 15 years now. I have never had any equipment damaged by spike/surge situations while using these surge supressors. And I live in high-lightening areas. As a freelance novelist and ficiton writer, I maintain valuable data on my system often irreplaceable at any given time. I can ill-afford a crash or loss when facing a deadline. APC products keep me safe and secure both by conditioning power and providing time to shut my system down properly in black or brownouts. . If the quality remains I will be a customer for life.

As other reviews have stated, the plugs are grouped too close together. APC’s batteries do not seem to last as long as they used to. I have used APC backups for 20+ years, but this may be my last. I will be doing more research before the next purchase.

I thing is as good as the two 500U’s that I replaced with the 550’s. All of the various Back-UPS’s that I have I only have trouble withn the batteries going bad. They do the job that they are made for and that is all that I can ask for.

Very easy plug and play. But if you want, you can install the APC software and get rid of beeping sounds, lower the tolerance (if your voltage isn’t quite right), etc. Smaller than the old ones, and easy to replace a battery if needed later on.
