I live in North Texas and occasionally lose power and experience power spikes due to thunderstorms that rumble thorough. And because I work from home, being offline for any amount of time is costly. So the APC Back-UPS Pro 1500 and add-on backup battery are giving me over five hours of power. I have a 27 monitor, my cable modem and a Plantronics headset plugged into the UPS power. Because I’m not using my laptop display, it runs on its own battery for five hours as well. I tested it in the middle of an online Lync meeting yesterday by unplugging the entire unit and it everything continued working flawlessly — no dropped connections, barely even a flicker. This will pay for itself with one three hour power outage. Installation was a breeze and there are some good options that I’m not using now but might in the future — like a low power mode triggered when your computer shuts off or goes into hibernation. Other reviews complained about fan noise when it is running on battery backup mode but I didn’t find this to be an issue. However, the PowerChute PE software that automatically shuts down your devices when the backup battery is low doesn’t seem to run on Windows 8.1. And the newer version on the support site doesn’t install correctly either — but that isn’t a huge deal for me. So far I’m extremely happy with this product, and the price/service from B&H.

First power back up system purchase. Feel much safer now, but I still never feel like I have enough copies of my data. Data on data on data.

Works well for many computer workstations that I manage.

So far so good. Feeling confident about the protection provided by this APC unit. I like the fact that all of my desk equipment is plugged in and there’s still room for more.
Hermann Franecki (verified owner) –
It works exactly as advertised. I just hope the batteries last a long time.
Yasmin Purdy (verified owner) –
Good looking, quiet operation, even has a port to notify a server of its status. Even has user replaceable battery!

B&H delivered again! Great product at the best price. Unlike many reviews on the internet complaining of a loud fan noise my fan only runs when using the battery. I called APC and they said the fan problem was fixed with a hardware upgrade. My unit was factory tested in Jan. of 2010. I Don’t know if it was fixed before then or not? It sounds like a floor fan on high. (Not annoying) I really like the LCD screen on the front. I can turn it on or off and flip through different live stats. The UPS doesn’t come with the CD but the management software is easily downloadable from APC. I have mine connected to my editing/render computer (Intel Quad-core Nvidia graphics card 2+ TB of Hard drives). For light CPU and video usage I have 40+ min. of run time. During high power times I have 20-30. More than enough time to finish what I’m working on or start the generator. The alarm settings are great. I can choose what hours of the day that I don’t want it to sound. It also knows when the computer is off and won’t sound unless you want it to.

Lipa shut off my electricity – UPS gave me time to finish and safely save my work on huge photoshop file and shut down. Necessary with a RAID drive.

Set up in my home office to protect and power 2 computers, router, and cable modem. Easy set-up, software works perfectly including automatically shutting computer system down in a power failure. Unit is very compact with a good display. Highly recommended

Provides back-up power and line stabilization for a graphics workstation and laser printer. A bit large and heavy but goes with the ability to provide long run-time for large loads. Seems to handle power variations without a peep from the unit.

Use it with a 2010 Mac Pro, one display 27 and 5 external HDD Arrays. Works great

I use this product to protect my television, cable box and all the stereo equiment.
Eleanora Bernhard (verified owner) –
So far so good, no power outages but its safe to say at least the computer is safe from power surges

The first unit I received had a faulty on/off switch. Turned on but was very difficult to turn off, had to wiggle it with a pencil. APC quickly replaced it with a new unit. Thumbs up for the quick turnaround. However the second unit just arrived and has the same switch problem so I’m going to have to find a different brand. Too bad as APC has been good and the support is very good. I recommend that you avoid until they fix this switch issue. Otherwise it is a good product.

I am waiting for my first power failure to judge this product. Found it was difficult to setup, but seems it will do the job.

Good protection, easy to setup. I don’t use the software, but rely on APC for the surge and backup protection.
