In addition to protection from surges up to 1080 Joules, the SurgeArrest provides catastrophic event protection and a fail-safe mode. An LED indicates when surge protection is on, and built-in noise filtering reduces the likelihood of data or keyboard errors. Furthermore, this Essential SurgeArrest protector features a u-shaped design that can clip to a desk, office partition, or monitor stand. The clip features 0.98 to 2.44″ clearance, and the power cable is 6′ long and terminates in a standard NEMA 5-15P wall plug.

Initially, I wasn’t sure how I would use the SurgeArrest Essential. The installation instructions shows four possibilities, including clipping on a desk edge and hanging over an office partition. While visiting my mother, I noticed a bundle of cords going to a wall outlet from devices on her kitchen counter. Using the PE6U4W, I was able to create a much cleaner look by combining these devices under the counter with only one white cord going to the wall. Now, her answering machine, weather radio, and cell phone charger are all protected from surges. I would definitely recommend the SurgeArrest Essential for anyone looking for a cleaner installation while protecting their equipment with APC’s great surge protection.

While on a week’s long trip with family, this product was put to the test, during both vehicle transit and hotel stay. As any device-friendly family knows, there’s never enough nearby outlets – in a car or at a hotel, to conveniently and concurrently support everyone’s device. However, with one single product from APC, the entire family was able to simultaneously receive constant power, ensuring their Android and Apple devices remained fully charged. Moreover, as this multi-use device provides 6 AC outlets and 4 USB ports, we saw a dramatic reduction in the number of power adapters and wires need to support the various devices. The only con / negative was the “C” shaped design which appears to be intended for hooking onto furniture. While we didn’t find any value in this feature, there’s little doubt that it could provide a means of afixing the charger to a desk. In summary, the APC SurgeArrest Essential Multi-Use Charger proved to be a reliable and worthwhile travel companion.

This design and functionality is a quality brand of surge protector. It works very good and has a great combination of ports for my workstation area. The clamp is pretty handy as it makes good sense for a desk computer. It’s so much easier to use than the typical strip type placed on the floor when needing to use the USB ports, main switch, or plug in a new device.
