The Apple 13″ MacBook Air features Apple’s first chip designed specifically for Mac. The Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Tackle your projects with the fast 8-Core CPU and take on graphics-intensive apps and games with the 7-core GPU. Accelerate machine learning tasks with the 16-core Neural Engine. Complete with a silent, fanless design and up to 18 hours of battery life, the MacBook Air is still portable, but now a lot more powerful. It also has 8GB of unified RAM and a 256GB SSD.
With over 4 million pixels, the 13.3″ Retina Display features a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display also features up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. With True Tone technology, the white balance automatically adjusts to match the color temperature of the light around you for a more natural viewing experience.
Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and use compatible wireless peripherals and accessories with Bluetooth 5.0. The two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide USB4 support and can even connect to the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution. Apple also included studio-quality mics for clear recordings and calls. There is also Apple’s latest camera ISP in the M1 chip, which enables sharper images and more details in shadows and highlights in video calls. Keep your MacBook Air secure with Secure Enclave in M1 as well as Touch ID. The Touch Bar allows for shortcuts, the backlit Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience, and the Force Touch trackpad allows for precise cursor control, pressure-sensing capabilities, and Multi-Touch gestures.
Please note that this MacBook Air can only output to a single external display with up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

My spouse is fairly good with computers, more than the average person but less than a full on computer geek such as myself. The Apple devices are perfect for a non-technical person. The device Just Works. Most things are easy enough to find, no help is required. The automatic useful connection to the iPhone is incredibly valuable. For example, being able to see the Apple messages on the laptop or the iPhone, for example, and the iPhone’s ability to be a seamless hotspot. Further, this small laptop runs cool, holds a charge for a long, long time, and is amazingly lightweight. Cannot recommend these laptops highly enough.

First, let me state a disclaimer that I have only had this computer for a short amount of time; thus I cannot comment about long-term ownership. Otherwise, as the title says: it was either this MacBook Air, or the iPad Pro. Both seem to offer their own advantages, whilst both also having their own disadvantages. Since I only shoot and edit photos, video was not really of any concern of mine, and therefore I cannot comment about such capabilities. Many of my photos require a vast level of selective edits, which had me concerned about the MacBook Air; as, a tablet with a stylus allows for more controlled edits. Thankfully, the trackpad on this computer works quite well enough for detailed, selective edits. Diving a bit deeper: while computer cases do exist, in my mind, a laptop’s outer ‘shell’ is its case; this would have been an additional expense for the iPad Pro. Furthermore, though the iPad Pro has got an internal keyboard, if an external is desired, this would be an additional expense. Quickly back to selective edits: the iPad Pro would have required, for me, an Apple Pencil (additional expense). While the iPad Pro would have offered greater screen resolution, I felt the MacBook Air still offered great resolution for my needs. Then, finally, there is the cost of each: the iPad Pro, for the same/similar specs, would have cost quite a bit more. All of these factors are what lead me to choosing the MacBook Air; and, thus far, I have no regrets. Now that I have covered what led me to choosing this computer, I’ll write about the computer itself. All in all, this is a very nice, quick computer. Admittedly, this is my first Apple computer, and only third Apple product (previously owning a 2018 model iPad (non-Pro) and an iPhone 4). I won’t get into the PC vs Mac debate: truly, it is personal preference. What I love most about this laptop is how quick the startup time is; the keys have a great feel; the overall computer feels expensive; the screen resolution is great; battery life is excellent; and, I find the operating system very intuitive. The computer takes only a few seconds to start up; and, programs are ready to be used straight away after that (and also open quickly). Never, yet, have I had a ‘hiccup’ in any program I’ve used, even when pushed to the limits. Battery life is excellent, in my opinion; when not using any taxing programs (rather, simply watching YouTube or surfing the web), I can easily get 4-5+ days on a single charge. As for design: I chose the gold colour option, and I couldn’t be happier. While I love the silver and space grey, ultimately I wanted something, perhaps, outside of the normal. At times, the colouring exhibits an almost rose-gold-like tone. Quite beautiful! Perhaps the most biggest downfall of this laptop is the lack of ports. With only two Thunderbolt/USB-C and one headphone port, it does make things challenging. I do wish Apple had given more thought to this. What else can I say? Overall, Apple have built an amazing product that, for my needs, absolutely suffices, if not exceeds. Devices are, a lot of the time, simply personal preference. My experiences may be different from yours; then again, as great as this is, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they are indeed the same. Cheers!
