The Apple Mac mini now features Apple’s first chip designed specifically for Mac. The Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). All of this boosts the Mac mini to an entirely different level, as it features up to three times faster CPU performance, up to six times faster graphics, and up to 15 times faster machine learning with the 16-Core Neural Engine. You’ll be able to work, play, and create on a Mac mini with more power and speed than previous models, making it suitable for home offices, gaming, music creation, digital art and signage, and more. Adding to the Mac mini’s power is 8GB of RAM, which helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently used files and programs.
The 8-Core GPU delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display using the system’s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI 2.0 port. You’ll be able to connect one 6K / 60 Hz display using Thunderbolt 3 and a second 4K / 60 Hz display using HDMI 2.0.
For storing your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 512GB SSD that delivers speeds of up to 3.4 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, two Thunderbolt 3 / USB4 ports that support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, as well as 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2, plus charging and power for external devices. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) for wireless access. Bluetooth 5.0 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 150W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility Also, please be aware that a keyboard and mouse are not included.

I love the machine. It is quite an upgrade from my 2018. So far I have had none of the problems relevant to a small disk and bugs. Internet is super fast. Although I am not a professional computer user, I do use the computer in my Consulting business, and are satisfied with the improvements.

It was hard to ignore all the hype and satisfied buyers so I took the plunge. I love my 2012 Mac Pro but Mojave is the last upgrade available to it and some of the new software out there wants Big Sur. So I received this Mac and spent a day setting everything to be familiar. It does boot up in seconds and overall is quite fast. My only con is that 16 Gigs of ram is max and it seems to take 8 of those just for the system. I also wish there were more connection ports. Overall I would recommend this computer for those looking for a small but powerful desktop model. I have no regrets !!

Coming from a 2012 Mac mini, this machine is so quick! I don’t do much on this machine (nor my last one), and I haven’t heard the fan in this thing ever turn on. I did set this up as a new machine, though, so that may have helped some. All in all, I’ll continue sticking with Macs if they keep making them like this. Cheers!

I went thru three (3) keyboards for my 2015 MacBookPro. It was time to evolve. I was thinking of another laptop but considered the expense of replacing the screen & keyboard. That’s why I chose the Mac mini at less than half the cost of a replacement M1 laptop. I can have a much broader choice of screen and keyboard at a fraction of the cost. The Mac mini can be placed anywhere. No noise. And easily configurable. I’m a happy camper. 🙂

Overall I’m fairly happy with the 2020 Mac mini. I can keep several programs running with no problem, and it runs Adobe After Effects very well. I wish it had a second HDMI port since I’m currently having to connect a second monitor by trial and error. It also doesn’t want to keep my usb external hard drive (for Time Machine) connected when it goes to sleep.

This little thing is incredible. I am still getting used to such a quiet working machine. My 2019 work Macbook pro makes tonnes of sound when compared to this. However, there are a couple of things I would like you to be aware of – 1. I had a really tough time getting my bluetooth keyboard connected to it, to a point that I had to buy a wired keyboard to connect it. Without the keyboard there is no way I could get started. But once I was in, I was able to connect my bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and haven’t had any problems since. 2. This is not a mac mini problem but more of an adobe optimization thing. I heavily use photoshop and Adobe has not come out with an optimized version for M1 chips at the time of writing this review and will be out soon. That is not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind if you use photoshop extensively. Lightroom version for M1 is out and it runs like butter. I never thought I could scroll through a sequence of 500 images on LR (I cried a little seeing that lol) . But those are the only things that come to mind. Other than that this thing is a beast !! I have been a Mac user since 1990 and have worked with FCP since version 2. This is by far the best Mac for video editing I have ever used. I hope more apps get upgraded to work with the M1 chip.

I switched to laptops a looong time ago. Since 2011 I’m not working on desktop computers anymore. But I just recently started on a new project and was in need of a new M1 mac machine. I was waiting for the 16 Macbook Pro to come up soon because I’m a software developer and need 32GB of RAM. But the laptop is still not there, and I badly needed an M1 mac. I didn’t want to overpay and decided to buy a temporary M1 mac that I can later hand over to my kids. I found M1 Mini with 16GB on B&H ready to be delivered in 2 days and ordered. So far I’m very happy, the performance is much higher than I expected and it never ever speeds up fans. It stays cool whatever I do.

The set-up went smoothly but it took a few days to update my applications to their M-1 version. Chrome crashes very infrequently now. Some Adobe apps still run in translation but updates have been planned, I guess. All, in all, it’s speedy and I’m impressed.

I’ve owned Macs since the beginning. This is the first time I am disappointed with the number of bugs I am dealing with. Bluetooth issues- doesn’t recognize my mouse. Display issues- Resolution changes by itself. I need to reset the scaled version that I prefer 2-3 a day. This is not against B&H, they are great.

Knew going in that there were no user serviceable parts (no way to add more memory or extra disks, unlike previous minis), and that there would be software in compatibilities with Big Sur. However, it is MUCH worse than I feared!!! At least half of all my apps no longer worked and only a few of the vendors have upgrades as yet.
