The Apple Mac mini now features Apple’s first chip designed specifically for Mac. The Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). All of this boosts the Mac mini to an entirely different level, as it features up to three times faster CPU performance, up to six times faster graphics, and up to 15 times faster machine learning with the 16-Core Neural Engine. You’ll be able to work, play, and create on a Mac mini with more power and speed than previous models, making it suitable for home offices, gaming, music creation, digital art and signage, and more. Adding to the Mac mini’s power is 8GB of RAM, which helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently used files and programs.
The 8-Core GPU delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display using the system’s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI 2.0 port. You’ll be able to connect one 6K / 60 Hz display using Thunderbolt 3 and a second 4K / 60 Hz display using HDMI 2.0.
For storing your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 512GB SSD that delivers speeds of up to 3.4 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, two Thunderbolt 3 / USB4 ports that support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, as well as 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2, plus charging and power for external devices. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) for wireless access. Bluetooth 5.0 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 150W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility Also, please be aware that a keyboard and mouse are not included.

Needed to replace a 2010 Mac Pro and decided to go with the M1 Mini coupled with OWC Thunderbay drive housing. Primarily use it for Photography processing Andy as an always on Plex/Media Server. Was worried about Adobe not having Apple Silicone native apps, but Lightroom and Photoshop run very well in emulation – so well I can only imagine what native apps are going to be like. Really really hard to believe the whole thing could actually fit into a form factor less then half the size. The “lack of ports” is totally mitigated by being able to daisy chain Thunderbolt 4. I opted for the 16 mb BTO option, and I’m yet to see any hint of that not being enough RAM. I expected some level of early adopter remorse but I’m truly surprised by how little drama there is in a first gen product involving such a magnitude of change. Have had more adjustment issues with Big Sur than with the hardware.

Really pleased with this computer. It is fast, virtually silent, and blends well with the iPad and iPhone, but it has much more capability. Very reasonably priced considering it’s power and features.

I bought the entry level Mac Mini to see what the M1 Chip and new Apple technology was all about. It’s very impressive. Although I got the entry level machine, I had no trouble doing photo edits in Lightroom while having some other applications opened. This can be everyone’s first computer or everyones everyday computer.

The new M1 Mac Mini is ideal as a studio computer for audio and visual processing. It’s silent, and hugely powerful. The benchmarks for Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro are reliable indicators of the optimization that Apple put into this new chip. I have seen a significant increase in capacity and processing speed for large projects. I’m very pleased with this new system, and have had only a single hiccup in Big Sur compatibility: I use an external RAID array that leverages third-party software entitled SoftRAID. The driver is not currently (as of 3/9/2021) supported in Big Sur 11.2 for M1 computers, so the drives in the array will not mount. I knew this going in, and the issue will be addressed in the 11.3 update. In the meantime, I’ve been moving the files across the network from my Macbook Pro. The 11.3 update is expected by end of March, which should resolve the issue. This is a fast, elegant, and silent workhorse. It’s a big upgrade from my previous studio computer.

Fast, complete computing solution. Only complaint would be the lack of ports which is easily solved with under $20 options.

For the price and simplicity, you can’t beat it. Editing videos is no problem for this beast.

It’s awesome, so much faster than Intel Macs, definitely work the upgrade. If you want a Mac desktop, this is an extremely good deal for the money.

Most of stuff now happening would never ever happen when Steve Jobs was around. 1. Locked into 16 g memory and it is soldered meaning now way to expand. 2. Older BT keyboard and mouse will not connect. Had to use older usb keyboard and mouse. 3. Main purpose was to be a Time Machine, and holy crap, this app is a total piece of junk. M1 chip does rock.

One of the best purchases I’ve ever made. My only complaint is that the Magic Mouse 2 connected via Bluetooth lags every so often and now has become a nuisance. I’ve tried every solution possible from online forums but nothing seems to work. I also remember this being an issue in the old i5 Mac Mini, but unsure if it’s a software or a hardware problem. The lagging does not happen when the mouse is connected to my 2016 Mac Book Pro or with the 27 inch Intel iMac.

The mac mini is just what I was expecting from Apple, and the service/shipping was just what i was expecting from B&H.

While the M1 Macs feel really fast for day-to-day tasks like web browsing, email, and creating or reading documents, the M1 processor itself just doesn’t have what it takes to make a good video editing machine. If you’re looking at it for that, you’re likely to be very disappointed. I spent over 300 hours testing this against several other computers that I own, and this one was at the bottom of the pack for video editing and rendering. For example, one 35-minute 4K project that I created for my YouTube channel takes 3 hours to render on my 16GB M1, but just 20 minutes on a similarly priced desktop PC with a 6-core i5 processor and GTX 1050 Ti. It comes down to the GPU. Video editing software is very reliant on the GPU for performance, and the GPU on the M1 chip is quite anemic in comparison to pretty much any discrete GPU on a PC at any price. At best, it performs at the level of a GTX 1050, a budget model from 5 years ago. The sad thing is that the M1 outperforms nearly all other Macs at these tasks, in some cases even better than the Mac Pro. Apple has really done content creators a disservice by providing low performance GPUs for years. This computer is adequate for most 1080p projects, but if you’re working with 4K or higher footage, or are manipulating clips with keys, scaling, or color adjustments (basically standard operations for video editors), you’re going to find the M1 to be frustratingly slow. I know that the M1 isn’t really meant to be a video editing rig, but I think the fact that Apple advertised it as such in their announcement video makes it fair game for critique. They claimed that it can handle 4 layers of 4K video. Which may be technically correct if you’re working with MP4 footage that doesn’t have any effects applied to it, but that seems like a very unrealistic scenario. If you’re looking for a computer for common everyday tasks, this performs really well. But if you’re a content creator it just isn’t up to the task.

Having moved from a PC, we are impressed with the Apple infrastructure and how well it works with our other Apple devices. The Mac Mini was easy to set up, worked with our existing devices, runs everything fine. Chrome actually runs much faster and smoother than on a year-old gaming PC! The built-in speaker works better than expected, well enough to use for simple things, then we just share with Apple TV for listening to music. The IO set was fine for us, since we use HDMI and wired LAN.

This mini is faster than my 2019 3.8 also. A must buy!

Got this as I am getting older and the laptop screen is getting a little small to see. It is a very good desk computer. It is some better than my mac book air…. I do not regret buying it. I do not do videos and such and it is more powerful than I really need, but for the price, I’ll take the extra power. B&H was awesome and gave me 100% satisfaction with my purchase.

This new generation Mac Mini M1 with 16GB is amazing. For the price it is definitely the highest performing machine (for most applications). It is silent and uses little energy but renders video amazingly fast. I’ve bought 6 for a render farm in some cases. Definitely get the 16GB version. They appear to be harder to get – so don’t wait to purchase.

The m1 beats the intel chip in performance and speed by far.

I purchased this be cause my old mac pro was very laggy with my new RED komodo. I heard people saying the mini can handle it and sure enough it handles it greatly. Highly recommend it.

We retired our aging MacPro 2013 in our office and purchased the MacMini M1 16GB and 1 T SSD from here at B&H as a replacment. Note: A big thanks for the fast shipping and excellent sales at B&H. We normally purchase our Apple products from a local Apple Store but to our surprise they didn’t have this configuration in stock so was pleasantly surprised that our favorite camera store (B&H) had it in stock. We also ordered from OWC their 14 port Thunderbolt 3 dock and this setup works great together. We have small a photography business and was concerned the MacMini wouldn’t run as fast as the older MacPro 2013 but was completely surprised how fast and problem free this new system works together with the OWC dock. Was also glad the Apple Superdrive functions fine too with the MacMini. We still are using the excellent Mac 27 thunderbolt monitor and needed to purchase an adapter to use with this setup and that works fine too. Would describe the system as a simple layout and fast!!.
