This adapter works very well. This is a camera/computer specific issue that I’ve had using a Late 2016 15″ MacBook Pro and a tethered Canon 5D IV. I’ve had corrupted files during tethered capture, without a booster, and with the Canon supplied USB 3.0 cable. Just to forewarn anyone.

Must have accessory, unfortunately. Works fine. Apple made a big mistake in not including a USB type-A in its new MacBook Pros, as it will still remain standard for 99% of users within the next few years.

With the new macbooks and macbook pros switching to a faster, smaller USB connection, I occasionally still need the use of the old USB A connection. This tiny adapter is perfect for on the go, toss it in a bag, without worrying about connections later on. In my opinion it is a must have for any MacBook user.

The USB port on this adapter is not blue but it is USB 3 and it transfers files effortlessly from a SSD to my iPad Pro.
Luz Simonis (verified owner) –
If you have the older style USB plug, it will not fit the type C socket. This Apple cord solves the problem.

Great adapter and works as advertised.

It’s a shame to have to by this type of accessories when you have spent $3,000 for a Macbook Pro.

I’ve been using every day for several months with my iPad Pro and Macbook pro, and it’s held up very well! Love that I can get good power output with my iPad.

I bought an Apple disc drive to rip music from a CD for my Apple MacBook Air, and it wouldn’t work with my other dongle. I bought this attachment and was able to import my CD no problem!

The adapter works great to connect my older external hard drive to my new M1 chip computer.
