The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter from Apple converts a Thunderbolt 3 port on a system to a Thunderbolt 2 port, letting you use previous-generation devices on your new Thunderbolt 3 computer. This adapter supports external storage drives as well as Thunderbolt-capable (any version) displays. With a bi-directional design, you can connect a Thunderbolt 3 mobile device to a Thunderbolt 2 computer, using an optional Thunderbolt 2 cable. Additionally, Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes a USB-C connector, which offers a reversible design.
Please note that this adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays.

This is the only way for your Thunderbolt 2 peripherals will work with any new Mac Book or iMac. It has a chip in it, meaning you need to buy a $50 adapter and a $30 cable to connect each of your devices–more than a hard drive.

These adapters are working great.

I bought this to be able to connect my TB2 devices to a 2019 MacBook Pro 16″. So far all of the devices I tried work perfectly. This includes a couple of OWC Thunder Bay 4 devices and an OWC Helios device, Softraid also seems to work so far without any issues. I think I need to buy more.

I use my 2017 iMac for music composition and recording. I wanted to connect a fast USB 3.0/Lightning hard drive to be online with the iMac all the time to use as a dedicated hard drive for music recording. I have a USB audio interface and MIDI keyboard controller connected all the time to the iMac and I found that the four iMac USB host ports were completely occupied when doing a Time Machine backup to another USB 3.0 external hard drive, so I wanted to move my dedicated music hard drive (G-Technology G Drive Mobile 1 TB USB 3.0/Lightning drive) to a Lightning 3 port on the iMac. I wanted to utilize a Lightning 3 port and also to free up a USB 3.0 host port. The Apple Thunderbolt 3 Male to Thunderbolt 2 Female Adapter allows me to do just that. The adapter powers the Lightning drive and provides fast I/O with no fuss.

Somewhat over priced but necessary to use Thunderbolt 2 equipment.

Very stable adapter; will recommend.

Works. Like everyone, I think the price charged for these items is higher than it should be.

With this adaptor I connected a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor and the daisy chain worked fine… so far. I do have other gear, with Firewire connectivity, that I have yet to test but will.

Right out of the package, plug it in and I was back in business with a high speed connection.

I needed this adapter to keep using my 2011 Apple Cinema display with a 2018 MacBook pro. It certainly does the job. At $50, the price was a bit steep but that’s to be expected with Apple products. The upside is it was far cheaper than buying a new monitor.

I wanted to use my older Thunderbolt 2 dock from OWC with my new MacBook Pro that has the USB-C connector. This adapter works perfectly for that and allowed me to connect ethernet, monitor, keyboard, drives, and so on with just 1 connector.

Well to be honest, I haven’t really used it yet. Judging from my previous experiences with B&H and Apple, I don’t expect there will be any issues.

My card reader has a usb type C connection. My iMac has a thunderbolt 1 out.I connected my computer to the adapter then the adapter to my card reader. It does not work. I am told that the adapter is not allowing power to travel to the card reader.

Allows thunderbolt 2 devices to connect to the thunderbolt 3 port. When connecting to a thunderbolt 2 disk array it proved a solid connection for the external array except that when connected rebooting the computer hangs. Not certain if the problem is with the cable or disk drive – but it does seem to happen with more than one drive.
