The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter from Apple converts a Thunderbolt 3 port on a system to a Thunderbolt 2 port, letting you use previous-generation devices on your new Thunderbolt 3 computer. This adapter supports external storage drives as well as Thunderbolt-capable (any version) displays. With a bi-directional design, you can connect a Thunderbolt 3 mobile device to a Thunderbolt 2 computer, using an optional Thunderbolt 2 cable. Additionally, Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes a USB-C connector, which offers a reversible design.
Please note that this adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays.

I have Firewire 800 (IEEE 1394b) drives and a new iMacPro. I connect the drive to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1173741-REG/apple_md464ll_a_thunderbolt_to_firewire_adapter.html) Then I connect that adapter to this Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. It’s not elegant, but I’ve not had any problems with this arrangement (I’m sure Apple will create one in a future OS upgrade.)

Unfortunately I have to return this and get the StarTech version because this adapter does not work with a PC. Running windows 10. Motherboard has fully supported, native thunderbolt 3 but the adapter won’t pass signal. Using a PreSonus Quantum TB2 interface. Presonus recommends the star tech as I just found out. Stupid adapter.

I thought It would work with my thunderbolt devices using windows software, but I have security concerns to install third party aplications to make them work if so, if not I would like to read some DIY is posible to make windows use it

There’s nothing I hate more than cords! But as long as you’re sure you’ve got the right one, this little adaptor in classic Apple-style does exactly what it’s supposed to do with no fuss, no steps, no permissions, no updates. It just works, and works the first time. Using to connect my 2019 Macbook Pro and an older model Thunderbolt display. It also connects my 2017 Mac desktop to the same display when needed, so that’s a nice perk.

Years ago I bought a canon prosumer camera from B&H. In November 2017 I had buy another Apple computer. All the plugs changed and were incompatible with cable on my camera. I spoke with a technician at B&H who guided me on what to get. Even showed me pictures and a link to the site.

An unexpected complication of getting a new Mac was that ports are not consistent with my existing equipment. After hours of frustration and research I found this adapter at B&H. Just what I needed.
