The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter from Apple converts a Thunderbolt 3 port on a system to a Thunderbolt 2 port, letting you use previous-generation devices on your new Thunderbolt 3 computer. This adapter supports external storage drives as well as Thunderbolt-capable (any version) displays. With a bi-directional design, you can connect a Thunderbolt 3 mobile device to a Thunderbolt 2 computer, using an optional Thunderbolt 2 cable. Additionally, Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes a USB-C connector, which offers a reversible design.
Please note that this adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays.

Worked initially for a couple SD Card Transfers then it suddenly stopped working while I was on an important shoot and tried to show the client the footage on my iPAD. iPad stopped acknowledging the adapter a few times after I used it. I looked online and soon found out this is a MAJOR problem with several other people as well. I wish Apple would make better adapters for us artists to get our work on to the iPad

Also it doesnt work reverse. So you can’t plug this in to a USB c external drive and then attach that to your mac pro. Because it needs to be powered from the USB C side. Unfortunate!

Nothing more or less to expect. It won’t work the other way around. so beware, you only use it on way. cause did not work for me the other way around. meaning thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 …

I have boxes of outdated wires and newer devices that need to communicate with older devices. In addition to the built-in inconvenience, Apple creates a need then prices items such as this as a specialty item (i.e., we only make a few so we need to charge more). So, sure, it works fine; but will too soon go into that box of outdated adapters.
