The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter from Apple converts a Thunderbolt 3 port on a system to a Thunderbolt 2 port, letting you use previous-generation devices on your new Thunderbolt 3 computer. This adapter supports external storage drives as well as Thunderbolt-capable (any version) displays. With a bi-directional design, you can connect a Thunderbolt 3 mobile device to a Thunderbolt 2 computer, using an optional Thunderbolt 2 cable. Additionally, Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes a USB-C connector, which offers a reversible design.
Please note that this adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays.

Bought this with thunderbolt firewire adaptor. I use it with MOTU digital audio workstation and MacBook Pro (2017). It allows me to be mobile with the DAW. Works great with no issues.

This did not work with my Drobo

I used this to connect to an older Thunderbolt 2 cable and then my older MacBook to transfer files for setup. This allowed me to control exactly which files transferred and to re-organize them also!

Bought a new 4-drive RAID with Thunderbolt 3 connections to future proof my data, and used this adapter to connect to the Thunderbolt 2 connections on my Mac Pro. Data moves fast and there have been no problems.

Perfect accessory to match your newer Mac with your Thunderbolt display! Extending the life of an awesome display for a few bucks is just great.

I have FW800 devices I use in Audio Editing. Plugging my FW800 devices into my Thunderbolt 2 dongle and then this dongle worked great. No loss in speed or quality. Very Happy! I got two one for FW800 chain, and one for my Thunderbolt 2 G Drive.

Worked initially for a couple SD Card Transfers then it suddenly stopped working while I was on an important shoot and tried to show the client the footage on my iPAD. iPad stopped acknowledging the adapter a few times after I used it. I looked online and soon found out this is a MAJOR problem with several other people as well. I wish Apple would make better adapters for us artists to get our work on to the iPad

Also it doesnt work reverse. So you can’t plug this in to a USB c external drive and then attach that to your mac pro. Because it needs to be powered from the USB C side. Unfortunate!

Nothing more or less to expect. It won’t work the other way around. so beware, you only use it on way. cause did not work for me the other way around. meaning thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 …

For years my work flow has relied on a thunderbolt connection and I was concerned that the new USB type-c/Thunderbolt 3 was going to be a major ordeal to adapt to. It wasn’t. All I needed was this adapter. Thanks

I bought this specifically to connect my WD My Passport Pro to my new MacBook Pro with usb-c ports. It works fine. Loss of a star for the price.

Works as intended. Ridiculous price (Apple lists it at $49).

I bought a pair to connect older Thunderbolt 2 RAID and single disks to my brand new Thunderbolt 3 iMac Pro and this solution works fine.

This cable came promptly and is exactly what I needed to hook my imac to the external apple monitor.

I have boxes of outdated wires and newer devices that need to communicate with older devices. In addition to the built-in inconvenience, Apple creates a need then prices items such as this as a specialty item (i.e., we only make a few so we need to charge more). So, sure, it works fine; but will too soon go into that box of outdated adapters.

keeps older drives operational and allows newer TB3 drives to run on older Macs… win win

Did not work with my old BlackMagic Shuttle & my M1 Apple – It’s an apple issue, the adapter is great
