Apple has re-engineered the Mac mini with 8th Generation Intel Core processors, giving it even more power for industrial-grade tasks, such as home automation, giant render farms, running a live concert sound engine, or testing your latest iOS or iPadOS app. Along with improved system and graphics performance, an all-new thermal architecture includes all-flash storage, a bigger fan, expanded vents, and a redesigned power supply, and Apple’s T2 security chip. This Mac mini is powered by 3.6 GHz Intel Core i3 Quad-Core processor, while 8GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently used files and programs.
Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display using the system’s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI 2.0 port. Up to three 4K displays are supported between any two Thunderbolt 3 ports and the HDMI port, or you can connect one 5K display via THunderbolt 3 and one 4K display via HDMI 2.0.
For storage of your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 256GB PCIe SSD that has a sequential read speed of up to 3.4 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, four Thunderbolt 3 ports support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, while also supporting 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 (USB 3.1), device charging, and an external GPU. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for wireless networking. Bluetooth 5.0 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 150W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

Purchased the mac mini and replaced the RAM for a cheaper upgrade. Made the buy expecting Apple to dram their feet on the ARM roll out…but it seems like it would have been better to wait..!

I am using the Mac mini as a file server and have connected it to my switch with a 10Gb Cat6A cable to its 10Gb port. The difference in terms of access/download speed is staggering.

Can’t be more satisfied with purchase. (I7, 32GB, 1TB). Keeping few virtual machines on and all other regular stuff. Except a bit excessive temperatures that I’ve been seeing (fan speed can be regulated through 3rd party software) everything else is just amazing. Yes you can build PC for less money, yes you can get other mini options on the marker for less money but this thing is just all in one and it works (and you can’t hear it 🙂 ).

We have ordered a few items from B&H and still to this day we are happy with the service we have received. Items are as they are presented on the website and have always worked perfectly.

The mini is small, fits anywhere. Much more importantly, it’s a great computer – fast, user friendly, many many features to use.

The Mac-mini replaces a late 2011 Macbook Pro whose dGPU failed. Its primary use is photo editing in conjunction with a professional grade monitor so the replacement of a laptop with a desktop computer was not an issue and the form factor integrated well with my workspace. Be aware this computer shipped with Catalina, so pay attention to backward compatibility with existing software. My photo post-processing is done primarily with LR 6 and PS CS6. There apparently are ways to start CS6 on Catalina but I could not find a workaround for LR6. I use virtualization in the form of Parallels 16 and Mojave. While Parallels is rather expensive, it is pretty straightforward to get working. So far, I have been very happy with this configuration. Even with virtualization, both seem to be at least as responsive as running natively on my old Powerbook and MacOS Sierra. So far does what I want and expected. No reason not to give it 5 stars.

I owned the very first Mac Mini that came out. At that time I felt the Mac Mini was average (at best) Mac OS desktop. It was not very fast or responsive. The 2018/2020 Mac Mini I just purchased has been a completely different experience. It’s fast, responsive and operates just as well as MacBook laptop. Another thing I Love about this Mac Mini – there are numerous options for making it a very powerful desktop. Ram, Graphics, Storage all can be upgraded. If you want a Mac Desktop -2018/2020 Mac Mini will not disappoint.

I upgraded the RAM in this to 32 GB through BH and this system works great! This is replacing my 8 year old iMac.

Quick delivery. And B&H saved me a bunch. $100 off the Mac Mini for my spec, plus no sales tax. I’m in AZ, so you locale may not allow this.

When you order, only get 8gb of ram. You’ll pay a ton less upgrading the ram yourself.

Bought this for our family computer. Mostly media center but the kids use it for homework too. Nothing too taxing, just Word and Excel and Google docs. To future-proof, I got it with 32Gb of RAM. You wouldnt think you would need this high-end spec for a family computer. But we have found the 10s of milliseconds of faster response really changes the user experience. It is literally a delight to use this fast computer because response times are so quick.

My new Mac mini is quite snappy. Replaced my previous 2011 original owner mini that was still going great until it just died. Still getting used to the new 64-bit OS as I was 3 versions behind.

This is my third Mac mini computer of all time using Mac OS. There is more than enough power for my needs. Connected an external disk and the entire media library is stored there. Put 32GB of RAM.

I am replacing a Mac Pro cheese-grater that was feeling its age and needing relief, plus it would not update to the new operating system or Lightroom, etc. My wife has a fairly recent iMac and would tell me I really needed a new desk side whenever she had to use mine. I mainly use statistical and photographic applications and memory and storage are prime considerations. Like many, I was waiting for an Apple announcement about the Pro line, as the football geometry did not appeal to me and offered no compelling reason to adopt. This new Mac mini is quite capable of driving 2 inexpensive but high resolution (well, 4k) monitors, is quiet, compact, and clearly expandable via networking to more units as needed. It looks like an Apple version of the Intel NUC, but with an operating system tied in. Jupyter and the latest Lightroom work well, my old Pro disks show up on the network, and I feel that I have a lot to learn about it. I was going to buy a light-memory version and upgrade, but decided to start with 32Gb like my old Pro, and feel it was a good choice.

I have several of these mac-minis running almost 24/7, and I can whole-heartedly recommend them. Very reliable, well-made, compact…fits my needs perfectly.

Very nice upgrade from several year old mini. Too bad that Apple doubled disk space shortly after I bought this…
