Apple has re-engineered the Mac mini with 8th Generation Intel Core processors, giving it even more power for industrial-grade tasks, such as home automation, giant render farms, running a live concert sound engine, or testing your latest iOS or iPadOS app. Along with improved system and graphics performance, an all-new thermal architecture includes all-flash storage, a bigger fan, expanded vents, and a redesigned power supply, and Apple’s T2 security chip. This Mac mini is powered by 3.6 GHz Intel Core i3 Quad-Core processor, while 8GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently used files and programs.
Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display using the system’s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI 2.0 port. Up to three 4K displays are supported between any two Thunderbolt 3 ports and the HDMI port, or you can connect one 5K display via THunderbolt 3 and one 4K display via HDMI 2.0.
For storage of your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 256GB PCIe SSD that has a sequential read speed of up to 3.4 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, four Thunderbolt 3 ports support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, while also supporting 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 (USB 3.1), device charging, and an external GPU. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for wireless networking. Bluetooth 5.0 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 150W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

Haven’t had a mac mini for a few years, been relying on a macbook pro. New Space Gray looks great, very slick next to my 32 5K monitor, which it drives beautifully. Upgraded to 64Gb after purchase, very happy.

I bought this to replace an older Mini that was running glacially slow. This new Mini is a significant improvement. Some of the software functions differently from the way it did on the old Mac (always a pain to have to relearn), but over all I’m satisfied. I would have rated it 5 stars, but the transfer of apps & files from the old Mac (using Migration Asst) was slowed down because the new Mini couldn’t detect the old Mini (old Mini in Target mode and connected to new Mini by USB cable), so I had to do a full Time Machine back up of the old Mac onto an external drive and then connect that to the new Mac which allowed Migration Asst to transfer everything that was compatible onto the new Mini.

Runs smooth with little effort – So far so good… Snags with software updates, but there are alternative ways to get around that…

The 2018 Mac mini is a great desktop computer. It can be upgraded by the user regarding the RAM memory. I used two HP 2009m monitors I had, with USB-C to DVI cables, a Walmart ONN 104 key wireless keyboard/mouse, with ONN 1440p webcam to setup a great budget desktop computer. The mini has 256GB SSD with 8GB RAM. B&H Photo gave me an excellent Black Friday price on it; thanks B&H Photo.

I have several MacBooks and needed to beef up the specs for a new purchase. This would have nearly doubled the cost that I have previously paid, so I began searching for an alternative solution. I talked with a B & H expert and he suggested I take a look at a Mac Mini. It seemed like a good solution to the higher priced MacBook — I would be able to get the screen size of my choice and only lose being able to use it’s battery — which I didn’t need anyway. Bravo to B&H tech support for offering a superior option for my needs.

I order the 256gb 2020 Mac mini version. After setting up, I checked About this Mac and it says the Mac is the 2018 version. Contact BH, they said there is nothing wrong with it. I got the right version. I contacted Apple, Apple confirmed that my Mac mini is 2018. And, they don’t make the 256gb version in the new 2020 model. BH is not doing anything about this, 1 star for lying to me.

I got a great machine with Geekbench scores on the upper end of the performance distribution. Memory installation was pretty easy after watch the myriad of YouTube videos outlining the process. I set this machine to be a audio workstation, general purpose computer and local file server. I was able to get my UAD equipment up and running and syncd up with Mojave after following an installation procedures article on there website. There were a couple of hiccups, but the article anticipated the issues and walked me through the solution. Also, relocating all of Logic Pro X sound library content was a breeze with the new Relocate Sound Library command, but youre going to want to install Logic first because there was only 20 Gbytes left on the 125GB drive after installation, and you must install the libraries on the primary drive before the relocation. This computer replaces two machines which I am giving to my son so he can have a something to use at his mothers house. Its good performance for the $s I am happy with my purchase.

This is a fantastic, speedy computer. However, Apple does not use mini-display ports any more and it would not run my beloved LED Cinema Display, even with adapters. The adapter boxes say so in red letters. I had to buy their LG UltraFine display to edit photos, although the Mac mini has one HDMI port that will operate most other monitors and most digital TVs. It has only two USB ports. The rest are Thunderbolt-3 ports, so it took another trip back to get some cables and adapters. Finally, the Catalina OS will not operate my old peripherals including my ScanSnap scanner or my external CD/DVD drive, and it will not run some of my beloved old software including Aperture. I am impressed with the computer overall, but it jerked me into a new generation of computing and cost me quite a bit more than its purchase price.

1) No more SD Card Reader. I dont know about others, but I use lots of them, and I need to read them into my machine. External adapters/readers are a pain. 2) Fewer USB ports. Who needs 4 Thunderbolt ports? Theres nothing to hook up to them. And if you do have more, you can daisy-chain them. I need USB ports. Almost Everything I have runs on it. Two ports just doesnt cut it. 3) No more Audio-In jack. What were they thinking? 4) No more Firewire port. I still have gear that runs on it. I need it. To wrap up: Were getting less connectivity, less flexibility, for a lot more money. Thats the kind of economics that will drive us bankrupt. Thanks, Apple.

Ive always been a Mac mini fan. I like both the concept and the execution. The new mini is very fast. Its well know low point is the weak video card but for photography that is not much of a flaw. I appreciate that Mac minis probably cost more than they should but I prefer using it over my well-equipped HP Z230.

I have had a Mac mini (Mid 2011) for 7 years and has been a reliable work horse. Unfortunately, Apple decided not to support that vintage anymore with later OS versions. The new Mac mini that I ordered contains an 8th generation I5 processor, 16 G ram and 512 G storage. This configuration is super fast as I run Linux and Windows 10 concurrently with OSX. I would recommend this to my family and friends.

This is the last product that Apple is making that makes complete sense. No frills, lots of common sense and lots of power. A classic.

I purchased this unit with the intent of using it and then decided to return it. Yes, the box was opened (never used)…but B&H has a ridiculous and unrealistic return policy that states they will not take ANY returns that are opened. Amazon, Apple, BestBuy…just about ANY retailer will process a return in the 30 days since purchase. NOT B&H!!

The Mac Mini so far no problem. Connect cables, used backup, down loaded and every thing works perfect. It does get pretty hot to touch but other wise works fine.

Given that I’ve upgraded the RAM on this beast to the full 64GB, I’m able to do studio grade audio and video editing work in a snap with a desktop computer that fits in my backpack! A great option for folks who need more performance than any pre-Catalina OSX.

I bought a loaded version of this: extra ram, extra this and that and it is a little speedball. That mush I will say for it. But then I had nothing but trouble with the connectivity . It turns out that blue tooth, wifi and the USB ports are so close together, they interfere with each others’ reception. I wanted to return it right away but because it was a special order with those extras, I could not do that. So I’ve spent lots of extra time experimenting with and buying doodads and now it works, sort of but not really. But it is fast and handles my graphics apps well so I haven’t tried to sell it. I just have to find a Mac that will handle wifi, bluetooth and the internet at the same time.

Replaced an old iMac with this Mac mini. Much faster and the smaller foot print is convenient. Good processor, plenty of RAM for my purposes, and I’m thrilled to have SSD. I like the ports, USBc helps speed things up. Shipped fast and came with out damage.
