Apple has re-engineered the Mac mini with 8th Generation Intel Core processors, giving it even more power for industrial-grade tasks, such as home automation, giant render farms, running a live concert sound engine, or testing your latest iOS or iPadOS app. Along with improved system and graphics performance, an all-new thermal architecture includes all-flash storage, a bigger fan, expanded vents, and a redesigned power supply, and Apple’s T2 security chip. This Mac mini is powered by 3.6 GHz Intel Core i3 Quad-Core processor, while 8GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently used files and programs.
Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display using the system’s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI 2.0 port. Up to three 4K displays are supported between any two Thunderbolt 3 ports and the HDMI port, or you can connect one 5K display via THunderbolt 3 and one 4K display via HDMI 2.0.
For storage of your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 256GB PCIe SSD that has a sequential read speed of up to 3.4 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, four Thunderbolt 3 ports support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, while also supporting 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 (USB 3.1), device charging, and an external GPU. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for wireless networking. Bluetooth 5.0 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 150W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

I have only used the mac mini for half a day, but it seems to be running ok. When I turned it on for the first time, the apple logo was yellow green for a second or two, not sure what that was all about. During the screen saver there are glitches sometimes, but not all the time. Again, not sure what that is coming from. For video editing, it is much quicker than the Macbook Pro 13 2017 model. That is good.

So far this computer has been great. No problems at all. Very fast. Great purchase. B&H could work on their shipping times.

Great Apple PC! Most powerful bang for the buck of all the Apple products. Highly recommend it. The newest version is very capable and it can be tailored to support all your uses.

The new redesign with way better cooling and an i7 6 core. NICE. Great upgrade from my 2011 iMac LOL

The Mac mini is a great affordable Apple computer. If you feel comfortable, you can even install more RAM yourself — Look up videos on YouTube for a walk through. Save tons of cash on ram, and use it to upgrade the other specs. Also, I opted for a slightly smaller disk drive so that I could leverage iCloud for storage, and thunderbolt external drives for fast external storage at a later time or my NAS. Apple makes a beautiful walled garden, but if you have multiple Apple devices, they integrate amazingly.

The 2018 Mac mini is not as robust all around in some ways as an iMac or Pro machine is… There are issues with the two USB ports along with Bluetooth / Wi-fi connectivity that need to be addressed accommodated for, but once you research these problems the solutions make them much more reliable to handle for studio use, for instance using ethernet instead of wifi and getting a shielded usb cable to plug in an external bluetooth stick. I think this was a real deal breaker for many buyers of the 2018 Mac mini, so used machines are certainly available at a fair price. For an Audio Studio, it seems one cannot get enough CPU for power hungry 3rd party Virtual Instruments these days, but the good news is that the Mac mini will not break your bank account as bad as a Pro machine will… Which means this gives you more options to save your money for other tools, and as always you get what you pay for, but with the 2018 Mini you can even save more by buying used through B&H, but it requires patience and persistence to find one that fits your desires.. I got the i7 512BG ssd w/8GB and will be updating to 32GB… I could have spent twice the cost for the 2019 i9 iMac, but for the same price I got the new 32 in 32 out Presonus Quantum 4848 instead, so I am off to new sonic journeys with much better audio performance and CPU power than I have ever experienced. Certainly good things come to those who wait… There is no sense is spending more money on creative tools when you can wait and save a good portion of that cost. Yes, The 3.2 GHZ i7 on the 2018 Mac mini is Six Cores and twelve threads which lets one get back to tracking on Logic Pro X 10.4.x with more power for plugins and a new audio interface for analog and or digital mixing.

If you are a photographer using lightroom, this is the best option to get smooth editing with flawless speeds. Presets load like a charm. Upgrade the RAM to 32 gb or above and you will really be in business!

This is a nice basic Mac Mini computer with lots of thunderbolt 3 ports, but a 128 GB SSD drive is too small to be practical for this computer. I added a 500 GB thunderbolt 3 raid 1 SSD system to and store all my data on that drive. About the only thing stored on the Mac are the application programs and OS.

upgrade it with Intel 6Core i7 & 16GB of DDR4, i run MacOS natively with 8gb and Windows10 & Linux on virtual box.. both with 4gb of ram and each occupies 1 core !! i plan on buying an eGPU also 😉

I looove being able to buy a 500GB ssd version of the Mac Mini without waiting for a week to have it shipped (like Apple would do). Now about the mac mini (that I am using to write this review) I’m absolutely stunned by its performance, it’s silent beautiful dark gray look. I bought it to replace my Dell Latitude (dual display) laptop. By now I have used a macbook pro for 2 years to prepare myself for an eventual transition to macs after Windows 10 took away our ability to choose the time of Windows Updates, this upset me so much that I am now using two Macs. For software development on Windows I have installed VMWare Fusion (because I am angry at Parallels for charging us annually). Having added 32GB of ram I got 8 allocated to windows and the rest for the mac, OMG does the virtualized windows runs fast!!! I am just in heaven.

I’m doing photo, video and sound for a living. Have been using MacBook Pro 15-inch mid-2014 for over 5 past years. As we move towards surround sound and 4k video editing, I was looking for a new computer that wouldn’t break the bank. After researches, I was left with options either getting an older Mac Pro (2011 gen or 2013 gen), custom built PC or this mini. I don’t regret getting this Mac plus a RX5700 eGPU, as this rig gives me all the power I need (And yes, I’m planning to use it for gaming too!!!)

Most of my industry’s applications are not compatible or endorsed for use with Catalina. The computer is fast, but it’s not fast enough to bring back the 3 days it took to downgrade the OS to Mojave. But yes, it’s fast. HD capacity is a joke, but it’s fast for the $$$.

it came complete in a wrapped box as if it had never been open. don’t know how they got the most recent OS installed

I purchased this i3 Mac Mini on sale at B&H and found it to be a good introduction to the Mac desktop. The Mini was received new and had MacOS Big Sur installed. Initially I had a problem upgrading to Monterey, but I think it was my failure to update to the latest version of Big Sur first. After I corrected my mistake the upgrade when without a hitch. I like the computer overall and it has been a good introduction to desktop MacOS. The Intel version has the advantage of using Bootcamp to run Windows 10, but I already have computers that run Windows. My Mini is connected to my Samsung 28 inch 4K display and it looks good. Mac scales splendedly to other equivalent resolutions from 4K to 1080P. Overall a nice little computer for the price I paid especially if you are curious about MacOS.

My wife and I replaced our aging MacPro computers with Mac Minis. They were very easy to setup and configure. They are absolutely quiet and draw far less power than the old MacPro computers. While Ill miss being able to update the computers as I did both of the old systems, Im finding as I age Id rather buy up, meaning buy more than I need now, to avoid having to heft, open, install, and configure new hardware. macOS 10.14 also was easy to bring our old setups forward. If youre thinking of a new computer, keep the Mini in mind. It may just surprise you.
