Apple has re-engineered the Mac mini with 8th Generation Intel Core processors, giving it even more power for industrial-grade tasks, such as home automation, giant render farms, running a live concert sound engine, or testing your latest iOS or iPadOS app. Along with improved system and graphics performance, an all-new thermal architecture includes all-flash storage, a bigger fan, expanded vents, and a redesigned power supply, and Apple’s T2 security chip. This Mac mini is powered by 3.6 GHz Intel Core i3 Quad-Core processor, while 8GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM helps to ensure smooth multitasking and also allows the computer to quickly access frequently used files and programs.
Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display using the system’s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI 2.0 port. Up to three 4K displays are supported between any two Thunderbolt 3 ports and the HDMI port, or you can connect one 5K display via THunderbolt 3 and one 4K display via HDMI 2.0.
For storage of your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 256GB PCIe SSD that has a sequential read speed of up to 3.4 GB/s. If you want to add external peripherals, four Thunderbolt 3 ports support bi-directional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, while also supporting 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 (USB 3.1), device charging, and an external GPU. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for wireless networking. Bluetooth 5.0 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 150W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

Great computer for photoshop work if you already have a great monitor on hand.

I had got it for 4K video plus with extra upgrade stuffs for 4K iMovie purposes. Apple had did away both; SD-Card Slot plus Mic. Jack. I also have M-AUDIO to run much more than just a mic. As far as SD-Card goes, I can plug in camera directly into my USB port and or I can get high speed SD-Card reader. This Mac mini runs cool at the touch.

I bought my Mac at B&H because this particular device was configured as I wanted, available, and discounted over the Apple store price. The shopping experience was great, and the communication from order to arrival at my door was exceptional. The Mac arrived in working condition. I might have preferred that it came with Mojave, but the OS was Catalina 10.15.2. Despite the horror stories, Catalina functions as well as Mojave for me with one caveat. I run the video through a Sonnet eGPU box with an RX 570 GPU. It works except that Catalina still doesn’t work well with any of Apple’s recommended eGPUs. This Catalina defect manifests itself by booting to a black screen. If I reboot, I have to boot up to the internal GPU using the HDMI connector, then switch to the thunderbolt eGPU. This isn’t a huge problem since I have both connected to my monitor, and can use monitor settings to control which input I want. I usually leave the monitor HDMI connection active and use Mac settings to prefer the eGPU for the apps I want. If you have dual monitors, you’ll never notice. I read that the eGPU’s using the Vega series of cards don’t have the problem, but since that isn’t my setup, I can’t confirm. All in all, B&H was 5 out of 5. Apple is Apple so 4 out of 5 in this instance. I’d have given Apple a 5-star rating instead of 4 except for the eGPU thing.

Just bought this to use in our office in our small business conference room. So easy to set up and so quiet. I considered getting one of those tiny windows computers but opted to spend a few hundred more on this. The ease at which Macs connect to displays and get the font size right is reason enough. It starts up incredibly fast and is very quiet. Considering I bought the cheapest mac mini I’m surprised at how fast it seems….seems fast than my $4,000 windows desktop PC.

Overall happy with late 2018 Mac Mini. However, the WiFi Internet connection fails if usb3 hub is plugged into the end USB port. Others say a longer distance between the hub and the Mini may solve the problem. Have not tried that yet. Supposedly there my be interference when they are close together.

I’m running this as an office computer with light design, communications, and general office needs. Meets our needs and the compact design is a great space saver.

I’ve just been using this machine for a couple of days and I’m already in love with it. It handles music production software like it’s nothing, and it’s super well built. I recommend going for the 16 ram, i7 3.2 gHz for a full beast

The 2018 Mac Mini I purchased is working great. I chose the 3.2Ghz i7 6 core, 8GB 256GB Gigibit Ethernet model. I replaced the 8GB of RAM with 32GB. The system is very fast, in some cases so fast you don’t realize the function has been done. The downside is the GPU which is weak BUT that can be improved with an external GPU via one of the 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. There are only 2 USB 3 ports which can be added to by means of external hubs . If you want a simple setup that can be accomplished or a more complex one, it depends on what you want. That’s the beauty of the Mac Mini. You can spend as much or as little as you want. My configuration was a modest $1249.00 to which I added the Apple external Optical drive. Even adding a monitor still added a small cost but much less than a new iMac. If you have the monitor, keyboard and mouse then the cost can be quite low or expensive depending how you configure the system. All in all a great performing and great looking system.

The first Apple computer purchased. It works as expected other than 1. HDMI 2.0 port connecting to my LG 27 4K monitor. The monitor got no signal after waking up the Mac mini unless I power cycle the monitor. I bought a $10 USB-type C to DP 1.4 cable to fix this issue. 2. The Wifi won’t be able to connect to my home 5Ghz Wifi after boot up. I have to power down the Mac Mini and boot it up again. The problem went away after. It did not happen all time but twice within one week. Dock app caused a memory leak and slows down the system. I google the solution to fix the issue. Mac mini runs smoothly after the fix. I already ordered 2x16GB for it and hope that will provide better performance under loads.

I use this all day as a Protools machine for recording voice over and also running Source Connect Pro to connect to other studios. The mini runs smooth with no issues, CPU usage is very low even when doing taxing multi app tasks. The only downside is that the machine runs very hot to the touch. You will need to keep it in the open, or if racked like mine, get a set of quiet CPU fans and mount them in the rack to keep it cool.

I’ve purchased three refurbished Mac Mini’s from B&H Photo and all have been perfect. They show up plastic-wrapped in the original packaging and look absolutely brand-new. I honestly can’t tell the difference, other than the lower price.

This may be the perfect audio machine. I went for the base model i7, did the RAM upgrade to 32GB myself and added an external 500GB SSD. My apps go on the internal while all my libraries and personal soundbank are on the external. Now I’ve saved a ridiculous amount of money compared to having apple do the work. By the way, there’s little to no difference running this super fast external drive than if it were internal. I can pretty much do anything I want to do audio wise with this
