Further improving the 11″ iPad Pro, Apple has added a few new advancements for upgraded performance, entertainment, and usability. Replacing the A12X processor, the A12Z Bionic has performance rivaling that of laptops available today, in addition to an eight-core graphics processor that handles everything from games to 4K video editing. Moreover, it’s still paired with a Neural Engine chip for advanced machine learning.
The iPad Pro’s display features the same Liquid Retina technology found on iPhones, and has a 2388 x 1668 resolution, ProMotion technology, wide color and True Tone support, as well as a 600 cd/m2 brightness rating. On the rear, Apple has added a 10MP ultra-wide camera, enabling different perspectives and multi-camera use. A newly added LiDAR scanner, which determines distance by determining light reflection, further readies possibilities for augmented reality and beyond.
With “Pro” in its name, the iPad now features five studio-quality microphones that capture clean audio and the quietest details. The combination of the pro cameras, audio enhancements, and its large display makes the iPad Pro a suitable mobile studio option for creative users. On the software side, iPadOS now supports trackpad inputs for an easier time navigating including mult-touch gestures. Lastly, Apple has opted for a USB Type-C connector rather than its traditional Lightning connector for additional features and broader compatibility with other devices.

This is my first iPad and the reason for that is because I could never justify ordering one, nor did I understand why people with both laptops and smartphones had one. That being said I absolutely love this product primarily because of how versatile it is and how fun it is to use. This is now my primary computer, multimedia device, external display and drawing tablet. The great things about it that stood out to me was the vivid colors of the display, the rich HDR quality during video playback, the smoothness of the 120Hz display, it’s paper-like weight, the unique software experience and the ability to connect USB C accessories. I also own a MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro seems like a hybrid between a tablet and a laptop. There are things that it simply can’t do like edit from an external drive but I found its met 95% of my needs without needing to switch to a laptop. Accessories really make the iPad Pro a better experience as I bought the Apple Pencil and the folio case with mine.

I bought an, ipad pro 2020 and a 2nd Gen Pen to use for image editing when traveling. I have to to say that I’m not impressed. The high res screen is nice. I thought having a Pen would make photo editing really nice. I would describe it as meh. I honestly regret purchasing it. It isn’t very lapable (is that a word?). It’s uncomfortable on my lap. It’s just a little too big. I know, I know, big is why I purchased it. It will be nice to crank out a couple easy edits in a hotel room, but it definitely isn’t going to be replacing Photoshop Classic. I think Adobe still has more work to do there. I didn’t ding apple any stars for that. I also thought that it would be nice to have this for tethered shoots when I’m out on location. I shoot Sony A7R3 and have been unable to find an app that will let me tether in a way that actually works well for me. I can’t seem to get a histogram on any of the apps. Lightroom Mobile doesn’t offer tethering. So I now own a $1600 very nice tablet to use for covid19 Zoom meetings. I dinged it 1 star for the price. For me it just is not worth it. The 2nd star is for my general dissatisfaction.

I got this iPad to use for photo editing and daily computer use but it because my most used device. The screen is amazing which makes it perfect for photo editing. Aside form that it has so many useful functionalities with the way it handles files, integrates to could services (dropbox, Google drive, etc) and it becomes the perfect bridge between smartphone and computer if you are already invested in an apple ecosystem.
