Apricorn makes very well-designed and domestically built flash and HD products. Their customer service is also very good (on the occasion I needed it). Their products have consistently great performance and their documentation is thorough and easy to follow. This is my second purchase of this particular product (to expand capacity). Notes: a) I connect this HD to a Mac with a (2.0 3.0 (T3) USB) adapter and the speed is terrific. b) It has a soft, fairly quiet internal fan, probably needed due to the size and encryption level.

One of my external hard drives died so in my search for a new drive I came across this Apricorn 2TB Aegis drive. I have found that using software encryption is often REALLY slow once any files get a bit larger than just a simple text document. In any case not sure I needed this much security now..but I thought going forward this is a good thing to have for the future, vs another plain old 2TB drive . To fast forward this thing works GREAT. It is a tad confusing at first as to programming it, yet, it’s really simple. I say a a little confusing as I did not want to mess up any codes I was inputting in order to not get locked out at some point. In our new digital world vs this unit, you have to keep track a bit of various blinking lights as to what mode it’s in as to programming..but it’s not so difficult actually. In the end this is SUPER simple to use. Once you set a user password it takes about 10 seconds and the drive just opens up and can be seen by your computer just like any USB external drive. This drive seems very fast overall…not as fast as a drive without encryption, but it’s 100 times faster it seems than using encryption software and encrypting/decrypting. One thing to note HERE on B&H, I first tried to program this unit using the user manual that B&H lets you download right here. The manual is from 2012!! I first thought my drive was broken as NOTHING was working..Long story short there must have been several firmware updates and the correct user manual is from 2018, NOT the one HERE on B&H. I think you can find the correct manual on the Apricorn site. Thankfully I was able to think JUST maybe?, the user manual HERE on B&H was outdated? and it was. It is very important to use the newer user manual as the programming completely changed. Funny thing is, you also get the NEW 2018 user manual on the hard drive, once you finally get the drive to open, after you program it. The manuals are INSIDE, Pdfs on the drive, but are no good to you until it’s actually programmed, by then you don’t need the user manual at least for initial setup. Also and my fault, the drive does come with an updated user guide which is paper from 2020. I NEVER thought to look at the paper user manual as I figured I’d just use the one here on B&H. Anyway enough about the user manual. In the end..this drive seems fantastic…seems built like a tank…I believe made in USA, and I am quite satisfied with my purchase of this drive!

A very convenient way to store data securely, whether it be backups, or files for sharing. Easy to program several user codes at different security levels. Also many user options are programmable, such as the number of failed access attempts allowed before data is destroyed. Very easy to use right out of the box.
