You have to initialize and set up a drive in disk manager first before ever using this product to clone. Most of the time a used drive will work with a quick format in NFTS. A new one requires extra work folks. After you set the drive up in disk manager transfer a file on your desktop to make sure it works. Also unplug the drive and plug it back in to make sure it is visible and usable.

I bought this Apricorn cable to upgrade my Mac to a Samsung SSD. It works, but there are better value propositions available. The enclosed software is just for Windows. All Apricorn does is supply a link to cloning software for your Mac. Gee, thanks Apricorn. A link to free software, very helpful. Do yourself a favor: Just get a basic drive enclosure and use Disk Utility which is included with your Mac. Format your SSD and then clone your old drive to the SSD. Yes, a fresh install of your OS is preferable (and maybe necessary if your OS is post 10.6.8). If you have the time, do that. I had upgraded my Winjunk laptop earlier using a cheap enclosure and did a clean OS (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) install. It’s more labor- and time-intensive, but worth it if you’re forced to use Winjunk. Re-enable your services in Winjunk to get your backups to run again. So I recommend it, but with reservations. B&H’s service was, as always, outstanding.
