Build a powerful, yet compact AMD Ryzen system using the ASUS PRIME B550M-A WI-FI AM4 Micro-ATX Motherboard. Powered by the AMD B550 chipset, this motherboard supports third-generation AMD Ryzen processors with the AM4 socket. Designed to pack a ton of power into a small form factor, the micro-ATX motherboard takes advantage of the large PCIe 4.0 data bandwidth to deliver high performance for demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing, and more. Up to 128GB of dual-channel DDR4 ECC memory, reaching 4400 MHz when overclocked, can be installed across four memory slots. The PRIME B550M-A also features advanced cooling and supports up to two M.2 SSDs and four SATA III storage drives, which can be put into RAID 0, 1, or 10 configurations. Its PCIe 4.0 x16 slot can accommodate a high-end graphics card and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots are available for compatible expansion cards. Or you can use the AMD CPU’s integrated graphics by connecting up to three monitors to the motherboard’s HDMI, DVI-D, and VGA ports.
The PRIME B550M-A has built-in 802.11ax Wi-Fi that’s capable of reaching up to 2.4 Gb/s with compatible devices. Or use the Gigabit Ethernet port for a wired network connection. Connect peripherals such as keyboards and mice to the rear panel’s USB 2.0 ports while reserving the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports for transferring data from compatible devices at up to 10 Gb/s. Other features include addressable Gen 2 Aura Sync RGB lighting headers and a Realtek ALC887 7.1-channel audio system. Windows 10 64-bit is required to take advantage of all the motherboard’s features.

Overall a Fine Motherboard, however, it has some limits. I have owned several ASUS motherboards, so I have a pretty good idea of the options. The others I purchased were all very high end, this is the first inexpensive board that I purchased. First off, I didn’t find the usual LEDs that light up during boot to tell you where things stand in the boot sequence.. This can’t be an expensive option to offer and it’s critical in diagnosing problems in boot-up. Instead, they added a bunch crap for this AURA feature so they can light up things inside the PC with different colors… what a freaking waste of circuitry that is. Also, the slots are very limited, you get one usable slot which is PCIe x16 and 2 PCIe 3.0x 1 slots which are pretty useless. Finally, the “User Guide” is the slimmest I have ever seen them publish… You get the bare bones facts, but little more.. Having built several ASUS based systems, I can fill in the blanks. However, if this is your first attempt, you may want to buy “up” a little more to get more guidance. On the good side, the board is very fast, has lots of USB 3 ports and luckily for me, booted up the first time with no issues… So, if you know what you are doing and don’t have a lot of need for expansion, this is a good board.. If you have bigger ideas for the future, pay up and get a more robust board..

Not the performance I was looking for so I purchased the ASUS Prime X570-P

Great, no issues as of now, and also love how many ports and buses are on the board for its form factor. Installation was easy and my computer is running great!

Board was easy to install, and fired up first time. Only issue, although minor, was connecting the internal speaker, disk lights, etc. The previous ASUS board had a nice connector that you plugged in the device then put on to the MB.
