Even though my motherboard advertises an ALC1220 chip with 120 dB SNR, it’s near useless for external amplification because it’s susceptible to interference from everything else in the PC. Moving the mouse causes a 1 kHz tone and it’s harmonics to play through the speakers. Even dragging windows around the desktop and hard drive activity can be heard. And forget about playing games, because the speakers continually screech depending on the framerate. I bought this Xonar AE card hoping that the EMI backplate and “hyper grounding technology” would insulate the analog outs from all the motherboard/PC power noise, but it was no better than the motherboard audio. And following a trend where motherboard manufacturers have stopped supporting DTS Connect and Dolby Digital Live, the Xonar AE can’t encode 5.1 to pass over the toslink connection. It wasn’t advertised as such, but it’s still disappointing. That means, for games, I can’t use the 7.1 analog outs because they’re much too noisy, and I can’t use the toslink because I won’t even be getting 5.1. So this is really of no use to me. If you’re trying to get mutli-channel audio out of a PC, don’t bother with sound cards or anything powered off the motherboard; stick to digital. I’m going to have to find some sort of HDMI 8 Channel Uncompressed Audio to analog out solution.

Asus Xonar AE is a multi-channel audio card that’s great for gaming or hi-fi audio IF you’re not using Windows 11. Sadly, Asus has been dragging their feet on releasing up to date drivers and keep delaying Win11 drivers, making the card I purchased a few months ago worthless. It can’t be used at all under Win 11. Might as well skip it and give a more proactive company your money. The latest ASUS promise for updated drivers is still a month away, and that’s just the 1st gen which may or may not be fully functional. 🙁

I’m having trouble with Xonar AE sound card. The sound cuts in and out. I switched back to the on board sound and it works perfectly. Went to Asus site to tell them about the problem, but I couldn’t figure out how.

Sound through the sonar xe is a lot clearer and precise. My voice through my microphone is a lot crisper too. Well worth the purchase.

I cannot give an accurate rating for this soundcard due to it not having a suitable driver usable with Windows 11. I just recently updated my computer OS to Windows 11 and unable to get the full quality that I know this soundcard will give me. I will give a complete review once a suitable driver is received. Windows 10 drivers for this soundcard will not work with Windows 11….DEW

LP-Pan 2 Sound Card used for my Ham Radio Station. Worked well replacing my U5 which went up too many times.
