Ingest, edit, or archive your media footage on Windows 10, 8, and 7 systems, as well as Mac OS X 10.5 and later systems that support 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 (USB 3.1 Gen 2) or Thunderbolt 3 using the Blackjet VX-2SSD USB 3.1 Type-C RAID Enclosure from Atech. It is equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C interface and dual 2.5″ SATA III 6 Gb/s drive bays that support 7mm and 9.5mm SSDs. The Blackjet VX-2SSD uses a hardware controller to drive RAID 0, for those who need maximum performance without any data redundancy, or RAID 1, for those who need 1:1 data redundancy and mirroring, at the cost of speed and capacity. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD is also available and is configured to act as independent disks or volumes. Included are a USB 3.1 Type-C to USB 3.1 Type-C cable, a power adapter, and a RAID selector pin. Protection is provided by a limited 1-year warranty.

This was supposed to config the drives with a hardware raid. Using raid 0 (striped) this unit is slower than just using the drives int he OWC dock as individual drive- very disappointing. I specifically bought it to config a raid since OWC does not recommend using their dock in a raid config. This was tested with Samsung 860 EVO drives. A total waste of money. Additionally, the drives for so tight it is difficult to get them out.

I have used this with Samsung SSDs 500gb transfers in about 12 minutes in Raid 1 mode.

I have moved to using this SSD reader and away from Desktop Externals. Way, way, way faster. And quiet. I haven’t noticed the unit getting warm.

Glad I bought it

Super fast with the USB C 3.1 gen2, good for 4k/8k video. Works perfect with Premiere. I recommend it.

I have bought two of these, they work fantastic.

It’s not too big, but you get a worried feeling when you snap in your drives – the bays are bigger to accommodate a carrier, I suspect, for other media. Anyway, popped the DIP switch in back, plugged in the T-Bolt-3 (usbC 3.1) into another drive and it was up and running. Didn’t even need the external power supply. Should work on laptops, too (i’m using an iMac)

This unit with 2 2tb SSDs is heaven. 4 streams of 4K and no stuttering.
