This set of 5 German knives look great and the sharpness is amazing! They look great and the hammered design is unusual. The wood grain design in the handle is lovely and I like that there is plenty of room for your hand to grip the knife and slice or chop without pinching yourself. These knives are well-balanced, have a comfortable grip, and perform excellently. Although the wooden box gives this knife set a look of elegance, I would prefer an “easier to grab” storage space because I find myself always reaching for the knife that is at-hand before retrieving one from a box. It does, however, make an wonderful presentation if giving it as a gift.

These are high quality steel and very sharp knives. Well balanced and “different” when it comes to looks. I do find it hard to call one a cleaver. It has the shape of one, but certainly not the size I’m used to. Cleavers conjure scenes from horror movies and butcher shops. This cleaver could only go toe-to-toe with a pound of cheese . The box is nice, but a wooden knife block is the only true home to a set of blades this exceptional.

This is a really greats et of knives that will enhance any kitchen. They have an artistic hammered look, and some squiggly patterns on them. Out of the box they are incredibly sharp so be careful! Hopefully they will hold an edge for a long time because I don’t know if I can ever get them this sharp again. My favorite is the 5.5″ santoku blade that I use to slice steak. They come in an attractive wooden storage box that will allow me to keep them safe from everyday wear and tear, preserving their sharpness for when I need it. I will hand wash these and take great care of them since they are so nice!

These are some of the best functioning and worst looking knives I have ever used. I may be overly critical here. I do a lot of woodworking in my free time. Mostly with Japanese hand tools. I have many, many laminated steel kinves, chisels, and pane blades – meaning made from two different types of steels forge welded together for the ultimate in both sharpness and durability. These are not at all laminated. The lamination lines are simulated. Very poorly. However as much as I want to dislike these for pretending to be something they aren’t, they are excellent knives. The out of the box sharpness is unreal. While these definitely aren’t any kind of laminated white or blue paper Japanese steel, the steel used is excellent. Not only can they take a really keen edge, but they can hold it for a long time. The shape of the knives is Japanese inspired, and I like them. very comfortable to use, fairly heavy but balanced well. The hammered effect does look really nice, but the drawn on lamination lines make me cringe every time I pick one up. But I do still pick them up, and often.

BergHOFF has long been known for their knives and this is one attractive and functional set. The hammered look gives these knives a distinctive look that exemplifies the hand-made qualities of each knife. They are well-balanced and very sharp and will become your “go to” knives. The serrated knife (AKA bread knife) is also great for vegetables like tomatoes.
