Sander works well, tapered front roller with lift-up guard is handy for getting bottom of work, getting in small areas.Belt tracking is a problem. After setting tracking for new belt, it quickly starts to track inward, rubs against stop on left side of lift-up guard. Takes a while to stabilize.

Bought as a result of good reviews in Popular Science. Used it on one job, so far, and it worked well. Powerful enough, and has design features not found in more expensive sanders.

The belt sander was light weight and easy to use for small projects, however the front pulley guide did not last. It wore out after only15 hours of use. It is not designed for heavy duty use.

Answer: No, but it may be your first. To sum up: it is a light duty tool, if you can imagine such a thing for a belt sander. It is too slow for a pro, HOWEVER, this has the side effect of being more forgiving of mistakes. Therefore; it may be a good choice for beginners. I do not understand reviewers reporting tracking problems. It is very easy to adjust tracking. I suspect people are pressing too hard. The manual describes a tracking adjustment done with zero pressure. In the real world you have to adjust for the working conditions, but that is not only very easy, it stays on track just fine once you get there. Perhaps some reviewers are using the 18″ version, which may not work as well. The lightweight plastic makes it easier to handle.I used it heavily, for several hours straight, to edge a floor, and was impressed at how it gets into tight spaces.Friction will make the wheels hot, so be careful when changing belts. After an hour or so, the motor gets hot enough to notice, but I experienced no shutdowns. You will find new uses for the low profile front wheel and open top feature. I sanded the bottom of a door to make it fit, for example. It is loud, but not as loud as a full size machine. Wear hearing protection, as well as a dust mask and some kind of eyewear. There is a tiny dust bag. It does accumulate, but seriously, much more stayed on the floor.

Worked great for the price. It was powerful enough to sand down bowling alley flooring removing grime, flattening uneven spots, and sanding away deep scratches. It is light weight and the small front wheel allowed me to target smaller areas that needed to be flattened or have a defect removed. The dust port was less than useless however. No dust came through into the dust bag at all. It shot out the sides and bottom like any other belt sander I’ve ever used without a dust port. Not a big deal, but if you are buying for good dust collection, be wary. Would have given 5 stars if dust collection worked at all.

The belt wanders a bit and the lock to adjust handle position (a good feature) is a little difficult to operate. It performs well, especially considering the price.

The dragster works great. You just have to make sure to adjust the belt tension, to keep the belt from traveling. I’m happy with the results.

W0rks great…easy to change belt…does the job!

It works ok , it is hard to keep the belt to track and the belt slips.

I rarely use my belt sander over my ROS, but this does everything I need to for the price. It doesnt feel like the best quality build, but I’ve had no real issues in the past year.

This is a good sander but the dust bag doesn’t work very well. Even after calling Black and Decker for help and blowing all the dust out of it with my compressor, it still wouldn’t collect the dust. Going to take it back to Home Depot.

I have used this sander for 2 weeks everyday about 2 hours a day. Worked beautifully, did the job great! Gets hot fast but cools off enough during belt changes.Great value for a great sander.

I bought the dragster belt sander to sand the gelcoat off of my boat. It works well. With the design of the small wheel in the front It gets in corners and tight spaces.

I own couple of sanders and they fit my skill level and the jobs I take on. I am a intermediate level weekend woodworker with 50+ years of furniture build and restoration. BD has always worked for me.

This sander allows you to get into the corner because the front is low. You can tilt it to hit the corners.ALso sander removes paint. The 7amps speed is worth the $59. Why rent Hp edger sander for $47. When you can purchase one that gets the job done for $12more.
