The oven is beautiful and seems (after only a couple of weeks’ use) to heat quickly and evenly. The bottom is removable to allow cleaning away crumbs. It emits a lot of heat; if located on a counter beneath a cabinet, pull it out to keep it from overheating the contents of the lower cabinet shelf.

I am a baker by trade so that means I can only afford to bake in convection ovens at work. I NEVER imagined I would be able to have one so when I first laid eyes on the Black and Decker 8-Slice Digital Extra-Wide Convection Oven I was in HEAVEN! I also needed it because I couldn’t convince my husband to use the oven as a toaster. He insisted that it was too hard to remember to turn over the toast after a few minutes under the broiler. The toaster has a ton of bells and whistles, every option you could ask for when it comes to cooking things. The symbols on the door tell you which button to push – for example, if I want to use the convection oven, I find “convection oven” on the glass and the symbol then press the corresponding button. The only drawback is the size but I guess it’s not really a drawback if you have space and you have been wanting a convection oven that can easily accommodate a quarter sheet pan. Yes, you read that right, a QUARTER sheet pan!! It just so happens one batch of cake fits perfectly in this size pan so it’s no problem at all baking one off in the little oven. I’ve also used it to roast broccoli (on the convection setting) and it worked perfectly. The tops and bottoms of the pieces were cooked perfectly. It does an amazing job at making toast and English muffins, the only thing is that it takes a little bit of trial and error to figure out which number setting works best. It seemed that 3 was too light and 4 was too dark but I’m still fiddling around with this. It has a removable tray underneath that is super easy to clean (just don’t do like I did, please remember to put it back after you wash it!). The last feature I thought I would mention would be the little wire rack. It slides in and out with ease and you can either put it on the top to use on the broiler setting (there is an extra tray to go under it to catch drippings) or in the middle.

Oven cooks really quick, since it’s convection and you have to learn how long you need to put the food in for or it will burn. For the most part it works pretty well. However, I got this in December as a Christmas present and by June (6 months later) the digital display is not working right making hard to tell what temperature it is set at and how much time I’ve set on the timer.

The best part of this machine is how quickly it heats up! It will definitely save time waiting for my oven to preheat. The digital features allow you to set both temperature and time, which is a huge plus for me. Its multi-functions are great for kitchen use (toast, bake, convection, etc.)

Works well so far for cooking, toasting etc. Larger than most toaster ovens. Would have got 4.5 stars were it not for one BIG issue, no positive and immediate turn-off. Once it’s on, you have to _wait_ for the oven to turn itself off. I want a switch to IMMEDIATELY and completely power down the oven; this lack would have caused me to buy a different unit, had I known.The instructions, for legal reasons no doubt, say to unplug the oven between uses – this is weaseling – they know most users will not usually do that.

More than 10 yrs. excellent service came from my old B&D convection/toaster oven. It finally got noisy so I looked for an ‘upgrade’. An Easy-Reach and another, fancier roaster-toaster came and went right back. Price aside, if it starts off with a cheap look and feel, where’s that heading? You know?Though the extra-wide oven was more than I needed, with adequate counter space it’s a good looking addition. Heats surprisingly quickly and evenly. Perhaps cooking evenly is a convection function, either way, it’s a benefit. Digital displays were not ‘must haves’, but I like ’em. It’s easy to set time and temperature, but better than that, all the controls are straight forward, logical and simple. Cleaning is brilliant. A lower tray, accessible at the lower front, slides out for cleaning.Solid cooking appliance priced right…in my humble opinion.
