I was excited to try this Chef’s Torch out when it arrived, so I made some Creme Brule for that night’s dessert. I did a great job of melting the sugared top! I was so thrilled that I decided to make some onion soup for dinner as well so I could show my husband what a nifty kitchen tool it was. I knew he would insist on trying it out too. Sadly, the torch did not perform very good on melting the cheese on top of the soup. We both took turns and finally gave up and just put the bowls under the broiler to melt the cheese before the soup got cold. Thinking that maybe the cheese on the soup had been too thick, I tried to use the torch the next day to blacken a pepper to make it easier to skin. It was a very slow process and I finally resorted to the bigger torch from the garage to finish the job.The torch is a great size and weight, is very easy to use, has a see-through fuel indicator window and a safety lock so you don’t have to constantly hold the trigger down. However, I find it useful for only melting sugar. I was hoping to be able to do so much more with this torch.

Chef’s Torch with Fuel GaugeThis is a must for the kitchen. Why? Because there are certain foods you can’t make without it. In the pictures below I showed making my creme brulee. The only way to melt the sugar into a crust is with a torch. This torch is great. It is butane fueled. Most super markets carry the refuel canisters and it only takes about twenty seconds to refuel it. There is a window on the side of the handle that shows how much fuel is left. The torch has a slider on the side to adjust the flame size. The back red piston is a self igniter. It is super easy to use and makes amazing dishes.

The torch is great except it lets you overfill and then shuts off when using at an angle. It just took several confused visits to HD to actually get it out of their storage cupboard. It was there a few times when I tried to pick it up but their system didn’t tell them.

Used it for Crème Burlee and it worked great. Continuous on feature made it easy to use. Flame adjustment was also easy to control for just the right amount of coverage.

I have been looking for a chef’s torch to use around the kitchen, something easier and lighter to use then my husbands propane torch. This torch fits the need and is a lot easier to use, and much more practical to keep around the kitchen. This torch fits nicely in the hand, with the weight nicely balanced for longer use, like a quick seer on a steak or on creme brulee. The versatility is important as I dont have a kitchen with lot of space and need duel purpose with things. Refilling the fuel is easy through a port on the bottom with butane easily purchased at any store. The flame is direct and focused, helping keep a dedicated area addressed. Adjusting the flame is easily done with a turn of a bottom and the locking mechanism makes sure no one is going to accidentally turn it on. The wide base also helps preventing tip over, and ensures me that where i place it, it will stay.

The reason I don’t recommend this is there are not enough BTU’s to do much more than caramelize sugar or brown the tips of Merangue. I would not have the patience to use this to brown cheese on french onion soup. I was hoping it would roast a pepper but not even close. After 1 minute I had a black area the size of a quarter. My old school full size butane torch can blacken an entire pepper in the same amount of time. If you need it for precision soldering or small hobby projects it should work fine. The flame is tight and about an inch long. There wasn’t much change between the short or long setting. The silver air adjustment just made the flame sputter and go out. Plus it gets very hot so really not useful for cooking. Might be useful for a hobbyist who just wants a light flame like you would get from a bic lighter. For almost the same price you can get a professional torch that attaches to a full size bottle of butane. The newer models have an easy to use one handed trigger. Also mine leaked gas so only fill it with enough gas for the job. The fill line is halfway up so a two or three second pump is all you need for 4 or 5 minutes of flame. It would be very cool to light cigars or cigarettes LOL. The lock did work well so you don’t have to hold down the button. Also it kept a consistent flame when at a 45 degree angle to caramelize sugar. It took me five or six tries to light when cold. Once warmed up it lit in one or two tries.Think about what you need it for. It may work for your needs.

Pretty cool addition to add to the kitchen. Never thought about using one. My wife likes it in the kitchen to add some crisps to some foods. Size and weight is good. Easy to fill up. Instructions were very clear. Has a flame adjuster which is very clear and easy to use. There is an option that will keep the flame on without having to keep the finger on the trigger. And of course this could be used for a nice cigar.

While I generally prefer to when cooking stick to things like grilling and such, I occasionally like to dabble in baking. This chef’s torch opens up a bunch of new possibilities for the simple home baker and is ideal for a host of culinary uses, from browning the tips of a meringue to caramelizing the top of a creme brule. You can even use it to lightly sear meats if you are careful about it.

This torch is fine for the amateur baker. It is easy to fill/refill with butane, easy to operate, and gets the job done on the creme brulee. I even stole it from my wife one day and used it for an unintended purpose – on heat shrink butt connectors used on the electrical connections on my boat. It worked great for that too!My only small criticism is when the flame is on a low setting, it often takes a few tries to light the torch. Aside from that, we’re pleased with the product!

I got this to just add a little extra style to my kitchen, I don’t cook but a have it to inspire my wife to try her hands at different dishes that require a little glaze over the top of the dish. It looks and work just like the devices that the chef’s use on the food network. I am impressed with the overall quality of the torch, I will just have to step up my cooking game.

I am not everyday Chef torch user, and the product came without any instructions even on the box. It has several buttons and sliders on it and not sure what is for what. For example, if I bring one slider to ‘No Gas’ position, I can still light the torch. It did not come with butane, and also no instructions about how to fill it (upside, downside, horizontal) with the spray. There is still one slider at the nozzle, I could not figure out what it is for. The handling of the product dd not give me a feeling of a quality product.

Why pay more for a simple torch. Now my wife doesnt have to get my big clumsy torch out of our garage anymore. It works just like it says. It doesn’t come with butane, so make sure you pick some up at your local HD. It is easy to fill. Don’t forget to shake the bottle a little before filling. The handle has a nice feel to it and it is very easy to turn off and on.

I’ve used another torch before for food, but it always cramped my hand so I needed one that was easier to use. I liked this one a lot, it worked well, easy to load fuel, and has a feature to keep the flame on without constantly pressing the button. The flame stayed consistent throughout use and was easily adjustable. I tried it out on some creme brulees and they came out great!

Not the best, but it does what I need it to do. Flame is kind of glitchy.

I am very pleased with this BonJour Chef’s Creme Brulee Torch. I was initially drawn to this product because I, and my entire family just loves creme brulees. So I decided I need to teach some of them to make the dish while I still can. This tool is just great and it has many safety features. The flame can be adjusted easily, the tool will not ignite unless the safety lock is in place and it has a continuous flame function. The fuel gauge lets you know when it is time to refill. I definitely recommend this tool because it is so easy to use..
