I got what I paid for. I am new to the routing world and find that my purchase was well within it’s price. My 1617EVS does what I expected it to do and then some. I learn a lot from you guys who have been in the wood working field for a long time. I needed a dependable yet easy to use plunge router to get the job done. Thank you Bosch.

Great router that is mounted in a table for use with large Infinity Mega flush pattern bits. Has the power to muscle through 2×4 lumber without issue. Purchased a separate base to leave mounted in the table so it can be used as a hand-held as well.

This router has done everything I’ve asked it to do…perfectly.

A year ago I purchased a Bosch router table. After mounting and un-mounting one of my other 2 1/4 hp routers. I finally decided to buy a router to keep mounted permanently. This was one that was recomended by Bosch, so it’s what I bought. I own to other Bosch tools and have been very satisfied with them. So I expect great results from this tool as well.

This is my third Router and in the middle size range. All three Bosch Routers do exactly what they are designed for, cutting. Wood, Aluminium and plastics. I don’t know how long they last because they just keep cutting. The oldest one, plunge type, is fifteen years old.

I have found the 1617EVS easy to use — its depth adjustments are precise. The motor gets unto speed quietly and quickly and it cuts though hard wood easily. I gave it four stars because while using it for the second time a piece of the sub-base broke off and I have ordered a new one.

Using exclusively for Bosch router table. Came with 1/2 inch collet. Removed collet nut and collet was stuck in shaft and couldn’t remove it.It should have come out when nut was removed. Great deal of difficulty required to get it out without damaging router.Router was missing 1/4 inch collet which should have been included in parts. Contacted Bosch customer service. It was an inconvenience toprovide what they needed to verify purchase but they did send a new one within a week.Othen than that it’s a great product.

I bought this unit to replace another brand and found the adjustments very easy to make. The downside, no template for mounting on a router table. Lack of a template caused an undue delay in use.

I needed a replacement router for my Craftsman router table, and this was the obvious choice. Not only did the mounting holes line up, but I only needed to drill one hole to be able to use the fine adjustment key from the tabletop.

Purchased to mount to my Bosch router table. Love the hole to adjust with the provided star wrench for depth.

I bought this router specifically to be mounted on a router table. The two main reasons for purchasing this router were the variable speed and the above the table bit height adjustment. This is well made quality router. It would get 5 stars, but it has two really bad flaws. Number 1: Getting the motor back into the fixed base is worse than pulling teeth. My old router (PC 690) was infinitely easy to remove and replace the motor into the base. Hence, I would remove the router from the base to make all my bit changes. That is not an option with this router. I have to leave the router in the base permanently and change the bits from above the table. This made it necessary to purchase a bent shaft wrench ($15). Number 2: The 1/4 collet was way too tight. I placed a centering bit into the 1/4 collet to center the router to the insert plate and only finger tightened the bit into the collet. Getting the centering bit out of the collet was a nightmare. I severely damaged the centering bit with pliers that had to be used to pry the bit out of the collet. That 1/4 inch collet in now in the trash. I now can only use 1/2 inch bits. I think this would have been a much better hand held router. The above the table bit height adjustment is great, but it comes with the woes of replacing the motor into the base.

I had the same problem as Philly029. The router just stopped turning on after a year and a half, so I have to send it in for repair. It is also so hard to get in and out of the fixed base I’m thinking I should just buy a different brand for my router table, and forget fixing it.

So far so good, have yet to try it on harder woods. That will be the true test.

I bought this to replace a three horse router which was murder to adjust in the router table. I finally had enough. This Router is everything I thought it would be. Plenty of power and top of table adjustment is a dream come true. I have two other Bosch tools which I’ve had for ten years and they are as reliable as the day I bought them. In my opinion, Bosch makes a quality tool.

I had one 1617EVS and love it, so when I upgraded my router table I bought another to dedicate it to the table because I liked it so much.
