Bosch 5″ small angle grinder Grinding guard and dust collector for a vacuum, It works well with a variety of our angle grinders that we use to grains down concrete and flooring thin set which helps us with the new OSHA Silica sand regulations, Available replacement brush rings for when they wear out, removable nose piece for flush grinding, Well made workmanship, The only hardest part is having to remove the grinding blade to install but well worth it.

The 5 inch small angle grinder surface grinding guard works great. It will work on smaller grinders. I have used it while surface grinding as well as the edge grinding. There is a small part that is removable so you can still use the grinder for edge grinding. It doesn’t work as a dust collestor while edge grinding. I hooked it up to my shop vacum and it worked very well.

I can’t say I was blown away with the overall performance of the dust collection guard for the angle grinder. I attached it to a Bosch 4 1/2 in. angle grinder which was quite easy and it doesn’t really get in the way of the work as much as I first anticipated with having a hose attached. In terms of its stated function of keeping the dust down I think the guard could have been engineered to do a better job on that front. It does work, but not as well as I had hoped.

This review is for the 5 inch small angle grinder guard. I bought this to reduce the amount of concrete dust that is generated into the air. The shroud is durable and even comes with real horse hair bristles. I connected my DeWalt HEPA vacuum DWV010 to suck up the debris. This shroud works best when it is completely flat (brushes on surface). It doesn’t get all of the dust but it sure makes a big difference. I would still suggest wearing a mask. I won’t use my angle grinder again without the shroud.

handy attachment for sure. but to make life easier get a bosch grinder first off. as for the dust collecting it works well but use of a mask is still needed. the item is mostly plastic so very little weight is added to grinder. overall it makes dirty jobs much better i would guess it cuts down 80+% of dust. i use a large dust vac and its possible with the bosch vac it may work even better. i was able to adapt it for use on a dewalt grinder but yep ended up getting a bosch and just going to leave it attached for easy use.

MAKE SURE this dust guard will fit your grinder BEFORE you buy it. I assumed it would fit mine (not a Bosch brand), but no. Even after a half hour of modifying the shroud, it was all for nothing. I enjoy when things are universal, and am sure many others do, hence the warning. The guard does have nice stiff bristles, yet I wonder what it can and can’t fit clearance-wise. Attach a disk too thick and the dust won’t get picked up; attach one too thin and it won’t touch the work piece. I imagine there are lots of fitting nuances. However, I do like the fact that it can be used for corner grinding/cutting as well by removing the edge piece. This piece IS hard to remove, although pops back on with no effort. In most cases, this will not be a fix-all, as you may still have to wear a mask. It certainly (if disks/wheels are spaced properly and you have good contact) will drastically reduce the particulate quantity. Working concrete every now and then, I can say that many times it gets so dusty you can hardly see what you’re doing! This will at least keep it at bay. It’ll also prevent those dust masks from clogging up too quickly; an added bonus. I remember removing concrete from a wall where I had to exit the room every couple minutes and wait for it to air out. It not only looks unprofessional, but what a waste of time! I’m not sure whether you can get replacements (check official Bosch website), but the brushes are removable, giving hope for replacement parts. The value on this . . . I have to say is flat-out bad, since you can buy an angle-grinder for the same cost of this shroud. But then again, health is priceless.

I have been a builder remodeler for 48 years, and as such I have had few opportunities until now to use a product like this 5 IN. SMALL ANGLE GRINDER SURFACE GRINDING GUARD FOR DUST COLLECTION. However, with the increased focus on health and safety of workers, they are becoming easier to find. I will definitely recommend this to all users of grinders,

Doesn’t catch it all but also doesn’t get in the way like some brands. Overall a very good attachment. I use it when grinding fiberglass and epoxy composites with abrasive discs and it fits a 5″ disc closely, while also keeping the brush bristles just clear of the disc while in use. The removable section is also important for visibility when grinding up close to edges while still catching most of the dust

Like night and day. This dust collector works well. Without the collector, you’re working in a cloud (until you can’t see). With the collector you can see what you’re doing and there is much less dust cleanup when you’re done. A definite time saver (and it keeps OSHA happy).Build quality is excellent (like all Bosch tools). Plastic body but with a metal hub that locks to your Bosch grinder and fits well. Caveat is that it ONLY fits Bosch grinders – it is NOT a universal collector. The grinder models that it will fit (5″ and smaller) are listed on the outside of the box. The hose port fits 35mm hose, which I didn’t even have an adapter to fit! If you’re like me and have 2 1/2″ hose, you’ll also need Boschadapter VAC004 (another $5).

When attached to a good dust collector, this really does reduce the amount of dust. I tried the same grinder and wheel without the guard, and the improvement is VERY noticeable! I like the placement of the hose attachment port because it stays out of the way when grinding. That makes it easy to hold along with the power cord of the grinder. You can also just tape or rubber-band the hose to the power cord. That makes cord and hose management easier. The lower lip is surrounded by a heavy duty ring of fiber, rather like a short paint-brush or dust mop. That allows enough air into the cavity so dust-laden air can flow into the port to the vacuum. Yet it is soft enough to conform to variations in surfaces. With a little practice, those fibrous hairs allow you to feel the perfect grinding angle and pressure. They don’t get in the way or fowl the blade. One clever feature on this model is the removable front section. That allows grinding up to a wall or adjacent structure. Naturally, when you remove that section, a bit more dust escapes. That’s the small trade off for being able to grind near adjacent surfaces. That removable front piece is easy to snap back into place, but somewhat difficult to remove, especially the first few times I tried to get it off. I suspect that as I use it more often, it will become easier to remove. The center section that attaches to the approved grinders is made of metal. That’s good! You’ll need to check the manufacturer’s website or the manual for the list of grinders and vacuums this fits. It is perfect? No. So far, no dust collection system I’ve seen is 100% perfect. But this does a good job reducing dust assuming you have a decent dust collector. It’s small, portable, reasonably priced. It will definitely save you clean-up time. It makes your grinding jobs cleaner, safer and easier, so it’s worth it!
