I have a sprinkler head buried under live oak tree root. I hired a contractor but he left immediately when he found out that it is buried under a thick root and the sawzall did not work. I spent a few months trying to figure out how to cut it. Obviously, a non professional demolition sawzall does not work at all. I ruined a few blades and also tried a few other cheaply made drill bits I bought from Sam’s club, they did not do a jack. I almost gave up and was thinking of reroute the sprinkler line until I decided to give Bosch spade bit a try and it worked. I drilled holes side by side to form a line and use chisel to chop off the left over. Within a hour, i was abut the cut the root. The drill bit can bind from time to time but with hammer drill, it is is easy go through.
