I bought the twin pack because I wasn’t sure about the strength of the shaft. I was drilling holes into a large stump in the yard and I bought these to do that. It turns out that all I needed was just one of the two out of the package. The bit held up with all the pressure I was applying to it to make it go down deep into the stump. It was the first time I had ever purchased this particular brand, and after my project, if I ever need tools or bits again, I’m going to buy BOSCH again !!

For boring all the way though wood these grab/bite in and cut right in. However the tip is threaded and if you only want to cut a bolt head recess these are not the spade bit to use. These bits want to continue cutting in until there is nothing left but a hole.

The Bosch spade bits work well. The lead screw versus a triangular point that most other spade bits have draws the bit into the wood and eliminates much of the forward force these other bit require. As the screw does draw the bit in rapidly, it requires more power from the drill.
