As a general contractor/tradesman doing everything in renovations, I was looking forward to using this measuring device. However is just in the glove box now as I can’t really use it for anything but general estimates. It is very accurate, which is good, but it measures in 32nds and the fractions are displayed way too small. This makes it largely unusable/clunky for general carpentry. I will check out some other ones to see if they have adjustable increments and especially a larger fraction on the display.

This thing is so accurate that I actually have to add a little slop to my cuts to ensure things are not too tight!!! I install box beams, crown and baseboard every day, and this tool makes it so easy to get incredibly accurate measurements. Do yourself a favor and pick one up.

I would recommend this product with a couple caveats. I’m speaking here about the Bosch Professional GLM30, which I bought 2 months ago. It depends on what you need to measure. Works well indoors, and I’m sure outdoors, though I haven’t used it for that. Seems like it will do volume and area, according to the instructions, though I also haven’t tried those. Seems well made.First, the instructions are inaccurate (at least for the simple function I tried to use it for) and, second, as I found out, it will not do what would seem to be a simple task. I want to string cat5 cable through my basement into the garage, to my shed and on to the back of my yard where a security camera will be….All in 1 run. I need measurements so I can order the cable.The directions say the unit will add up measurements. What it doesn’t say is that it will add up only 2 measurements. If you want to add a third value, then a fourth you are out of luck. Your first measurements zero out and your third measure becomes the first of your second grouping . You can only add 2 measurements, which makes this unit useless for random linear measuring of more than 2 spaces.And regarding the instructions, they neglect one step in the process. They read: “To measure, press the measuring button #2. The measured value will be shown at the bottom of the display.Press button #6 to add measured values or press button #3 to subtract measured values. Take another measurement. The current measured value will be shown at the bottom of the display, and the previous measured value will be shown above it.Press button #6 to add measured values or press button #3 to subtract. The result will be shown at bottom. This is not how it works. You need to use the button id’d as #2 as a kind of ‘capture’ function. You press it to start the measure function, then press it again to ‘capture’ the measured value. Then you press the ‘+’ key (id’d as #6), and that will move your measurement to the center of the view window, and ready the device to do that all over for the second value….press #2 to start your second measure, press #2 to ‘capture’ it, then press ‘+’ to add them together. If you do this last bit one more time…..you’re starting over.I would recommend the product, but with limitations explained, though I think it’s pricey.

I am an Insurance Claims Adjuster and this thing is very reliable and the batteries last a long time. I have been using it off and on for almost 2 months now and it is still on the batteries that came in the box. I have dropped it and have gotten it very dirty. I just wipe it off and it fires right back up.

Almost twice the range at less than half the price and half the size. After years of use, my old unit still works fine. However, I liked the fact that the range of this item was so markedly increased. As an additional benefit, it comfortably fits in your pocket. I will admit that including a belt case would be better, but this laser is small and light enough that it isn’t really an issue. (Old dog, new tricks? Some habits are easy to change.) The various geometric functions make calculations accurate and effortless, which for me makes it a perfect addition.

Where was this thing when I measured my house for architectural drawings!!!! I really can’t believe I used a tape measure…This will not completely replace your tape measure, but it’s a fantastic tool for your toolbelt. I typically use the second mode, which stores 3 measurements. I can’t stress how much faster this is than a tape measureis for longer (over 5′) measurements. I chose Bosch because of their reputation for quality products, and have no complaints about this little workhorse. Highly recommended!
