   This kit has everything you will need for using the laser lever in any situation. The tripod is quick to set up and the laser self calibrates before I am ready to start marking lines. I especially like the wall mount, two screws in the wall and you can mount it in a small room and not have to worry about tripping over the tripod. The coolest bit is the reader that you attach to the leveling rod, even though you can’t see the laser when you are at the other end of the driveway it will see the light and you can take readings. I often work alone and this feature saves me time and money when I really only need a helper for a few little tasks.

   Construction, landscaping, level headed or deliberately not, everything you need is in the Bosch Revolve2000 kit including the batteries and transport case. The transmitter can mount in horizontal or vertical mode on the tripod and auto-levels within a few seconds of startup. I needed to find a location to drill through the foundation to place a power outlet in stone facing while keeping the inside hole for power wire near the main electrical panels but away from wall framing. I found it very easy to set up vertical and horizontal references on the outside and inside walls so I could measure and locate the external and internal positions that best met the requirements and give me confidence that I will drill through 11 inches of foundation and come out in the right place.The transmitter has a remote control with the same control layout as the transmitter so you don’t have to disturb the transmitter to make any settings. You can switch to manual leveling to allow tilting the x and or y direction to a desired slope such as drainage. This allows you to just follow the laser line to get a consistent angle. The tripod mount also includes a plumb bob hook for exact location of the transmitter and projects a vertical plumb laser out the top for locating against an upper surface. There are ceiling mount and target tools to help install a level suspended ceiling, or maybe not level if you are doing a theater with sloping seating and ceiling.For outdoor use where the laser is not bright enough to see there is a receiver that can be set from 1/32 inch to 1 inch sensitivity based on your project need. The receiver will beep fast if it detects the laser high, slow if it detects the laser low, and a steady tone if the laser is within the sensitivity you set. I needed to determine if I had enough grade to manage rain runoff toward a garden area without risking erosion. The receiver made it easy to record elevations at marked locations and identify areas to scrape off or build up to guide runoff gently to get absorption without flooding. The measuring rod can extend to measure 13 feet of elevation before having to relocate the transmitter. The Revolve2000 has 1000 feet of range from transmitter to receiver so can handle a 72 acre circle.    This is an awesome tool with a steep learning curve if you have never used one before, but trust me, this is WORTH EVERY PENNY YOU SPEND AND MINUTE YOU TAKE LEARNING IT. I have a number of projects going now that I have free time, the two biggest ones are setting a retaining wall/planter wall and regrading my side yard. Since I also have some building and reno projects planned, I picked this up so I could work on them myself. The REVOLVE2000 is a lot of tool: it allows you to do dual slopes, as well as setting horizontal and vertical level and plumb lines. Setting grades is easy too. This kit is really all in one: laser, tripod, remote receiver, grade stick, batteries, carrying case…all you need. The self leveling is really, really nice: as long as the tripod mount is kind of level you are set. I used it right out of the box to set shelves on two walls so they were level and even with each other. The remote receiver means that setting grades is a one man job and I don’t need help to do it. My friend, who is a contractor/builder, also thought this was one incredible tool. The laser can be a little hard to see in sunlight but the target card, remote receiver, as well as the red glasses provided help a lot here.Only drawback (for someone like me) is that it takes some time to learn all it can do; thankfully, there are lots of videos on how to use HV Rotary Lasers on the internet; I’m looking forward to Bosch putting one of their own training videos together. Recommended for contractors and those in the building trades, but very handy for a DIYer like myself doing big projects.

   Easy enough for the DIY’er to figure out (most of it) and sophisticated enough for the everyday professional on a budget. The Bosch Resolve2000 Self-Leveling Horizontal Rotary laser kit is a wonderful tool that comes with multiple accessories that is all packed up into one single carrying case. The main unit of the kit is the GRL2000-40HK rotary laser which features a “red” beam horizontal self-leveling laser along with a vertical beam simultaneously emitting from the top. The unit takes std. D cell batteries, which is nice. The front panel is well laid out and mostly self-explanatory. This is not an LCD display panel, only function buttons which after turning the unit on you really want to use the remote. There are two large rubberized carry handles to protect the front display and a cage to protect the rotating laser head. The cage is marked with X & Y +/- directions used with the slope function. The kit comes with a remote with two AA batteries. I found out quickly to make all the adjustment with this remote because if you disturb the laser unit by pushing on a function button the shock-warning “disturbance” function kicks in the stops the laser making you start all over again. The remote can do all the functions as found on the front panel except for turning the unit on or off, it however can put it on standby which is not on the unit front. The declared accuracy for the unit is +/-1/16 of an inch and I tested it at 30 feet per the calibration instructions and found it to be right on. The laser is rated to 2,000 feet when using the receiver but the furthest I could do was 200 feet, in moderate daylight, and it worked perfectly. The unit can be placed on its side (HV model only) and used as a vertical rotary laser instead of a horizontal. The kit comes with nice adjustable aluminum tripod with shoulder carrying strap that includes a wraparound leg lock strap. The tripod can be collapsed to 30 inches and extended to 64 inches (not deployed just the length) and has foot pegs to help push the leg tips into harder dirt. The lowest stable deployed height (legs spread all the way out) I could get was 17 inches to the laser and the highest stable deployed height (legs almost collapsed) was 70 inches. The connecting thread between the unit and tripod is 5/8-11 with the tripod having the male thd. The kit also come with what Bosch calls a wall mount/alignment unit or bracket. Once you attached the unit to the bracket you can then mount on or suspended the unit from the ceiling or whatever framework. This configuration is mostly used with the supplied red mirrored target. Red glasses are also supplied in the kit and I was kind-a surprised on how much better you can see the red beam with them. The leveling rod or grade stick is made from aluminum, marked in ¼” increment’s, 30 inches’ when collapsed and 13 feet when fully extended. The LR20 laser receiver can be used with or without the grade stick. If the grade stick bracket is removed the imbedded magnets can be used instead and will support the receiver’s weight in both horizontal and vertical positions. The receiver has a horizontal bubble level, the bracket attaching it to the grade stick has a bull’s eye vertical level. The receiver has a display on both the front and rear of the unit, which is really nice, so you do not get you head in the way of the beam like I tend to do (bifocals). The receiver does have a back light that can be turned on for dusk or night operation. The receiver has a two-volume level audible alarm that guides you. A fast beep means your too high and slow beep means your too low. A solid tone means you right at level. The receiver has visual indicators also that tells you which way the receiver needs to move to get to level. These show on both front and back displays. There are three different accuracy settings, fine medium and course, that can be toggled through using one selector button on the receiver. The fine selection will display 1/32 and 1/16” increments, the medium will display 1/8 and ¼” with the course displaying ½ and 1”. Let’s talk about the beam itself. This is a red laser beam that can be moved from rotary to stationary to oscillate depending upon your needs. The rotary option has three different speeds with the vertical beam always on. The rotary beam can be changed from clockwise to counterclockwise rotation and then switched to oscillate mode. Single point can be achieved when running through the rotational speeds with the last speed being stop. There are three different sweeps when switched to oscillating, which IMO are 5, 15 and 30 degrees of arc. I could be wrong but that’s what my math works it out to be. These are all toggled through using the same function button on the unit or remote. Just like the rotary option, this can be changed from going right to left to going left to right. The single slope or duel slope option is somewhat confusing but if you play with the unit long enough you finally get the hang of it. The top of the laser unit has directional arrows showing both + and – in X and Y. You can tilt one axis at a time up to 8 degrees in either direction. To go back to auto level just push the center button and your back. Things I liked, uses common batteries, easy to identify function buttons and everything you need is in the kit. Things I did not like, mediocre to poor directions. If you have used a rotary level before the directions could be adequate but not for a newbie. Bosch web site has no instructional videos for using the different functions. People learn in different ways; I need some “how to” videos along with the directions to shorten the learning curve. There is no display to show you how much of a slope or angle you are at like other rotary levels have. The function button on the unit or remote has no defined amount of movement per push. I found that you need to hold the button down to get the head to angle the beam, there seems to be no rhyme or reason on how much it moves every time you push the button. All electronics, brkt’s and targets are made in Malaysia, tripod and grade stick India and the carry case in the USA. This is a great unit that will do everything a homeowner would ever want to do and then some. The accuracy, configuration versatility and working distance puts this unit into the professionals use area. Good price point, recommended.

   What sets this laser apart from the other Bosch lasers is the ability to dial in the slope. No more crunching the numbers to get grade and then clicking the laser up or down until it beeps on the grade rod (which requires two people anyway). Just turn it on, wait for level and then using the blue tooth control just dial it up or down, two axis even. All the usual functions are there too, of course. It’s a very nice setup.
