The Bosch GWS13-50VSP 5 in. angle grinder with lock-on paddle switch and variable speed, features a new 13 Amp motor design with direct motor cooling and more air vents. This feature reduces hand blockage to extend tool life and provide higher overload capabilities to prevent overheating. Results from independent testing revealed that Bosch grinders outlast the competition to deliver the best tool lifetime in the market up to 9 times more life than competitors. Improved carbon brushes offer more than double the lifetime of previous brushes, which means less downtime for maintenance. Additional features include a new patented multi-grip paddle switch and textured housing to provide increased grip options for better ergonomics and tool control. The first-to-the-market multi-grip paddle switch can now be operated in the front, middle and rear as opposed to only in the rear on old models allowing users to hold the grinder in any position.
- Powerful 13 Amp motor with constant electronic for fast work progress and high productivity
- Patented multi-grip paddle switch that allows multiple grip positions for optimal comfort and control
- Variable speed dial that provides the ability to adjust speed for specific applications
- Electronic clutch which shuts down the motor if the wheel gets into a sudden bind situation
- Overload protection that shuts off tool to reduce overheating and motor damage
- Constant response circuitry maintains constant speed under load
- Soft start reduces start-up torque to protect motor
- Restart protection protects against an automatic restart after a power interruption
- No-lock-on switch which allows the grinder to turn off when the switch is released
- Directed air flow diverts dust away from switch and vital components to extend tool life
- Large spindle lock for more convenience and easier change of accessories

Overall another great tool from Bosch. I used this in conjunction with wire wheels to clean plaster residue from concrete. The variable speed allowed me to find the optimal balance between performance and wire wheel longevity. It seems to have weathered close to 100 hours in an extremely fine dust environment without failure. Recommend using compressed air to keep internal mechanics clean.

This angle grinder is an excellent selection. It has loads of power, is well balanced and the variable speed makes it very well adapted to a multiplicity of tasks. This is the fourth grinder in my arsenal and my second Bosch grinder. My only complaint is the paddle switch does take some time to feel comfortable. My assessment based on the other Bosch is that this grinder will provide service for many hours and is fast becoming my favorite.

I like the way the switch works and it has plenty of power

The actual grinder is excellent but the paddle to get it started and keep it running is not a good design. You have to push the paddle sideways away from your fingers making hard to hold the paddle. Also it doesn’t have a lock. It has a lock preventing it to get it started by accident.

Good grinder. Like the variable speed. Paddle trigger is nice but not a game changer. Guard is a little bit of a pain to get on. Solid overall tool at a fair price.

Been using it a lot the past week,,, and it had been a champ. So far, so good! Just one thing.. twice it has not stopped after pressing the main on/off switch underneath.. seems to stick once in a while… but after depressing numerous times, finally got loose, and the thing stopped running.

I picked one of these up from my local Home Depot last night to do some concrete grinding as part of a home renovation project. The Bosch did not disappoint. The quality of the tool seems excellent. I am very familiar with Dewalt tools and this was the first Bosch tool I have bought and I will definitely consider purchasing more in the future. The build, design, and quality were all very solid compared to other tools I’ve used. This model seemed to be the best angle grinder offered in-store at my location; it was definitely the most expensive at $30 more than the next most expensive 5″ grinder (Makita). Ultimately I chose this one (despite the higher cost) because it was the most powerful by far, pulling 13 amps (next best – Makita only pulled 10.5A at $120). This extra power really does make a difference in an angle grinder, particularly when doing metal or concrete work. Weaker tools will bog down and lose rpm’s when doing heavy cutting or grinding. In my case, I was grinding through 1″ of 1950’s era reinforced concrete to level out the over-pour on some masonry work in my home. This tore right through it (using a 5″ Makita diamond grinding cup) without bogging down or overheating. The told worked well ergonomically. The paddle trigger is ‘fine’, it’s a bit different from other grinders so will take a minute to get used to, but the plus side is that you can hold the grinder almost anywhere and still hit the trigger, so I guess this makes it more user friendly… Not a major selling point, but not a detractor either. Also, the handle has a sort of rubber flex-point to act as a shock/vibration dampener, which is very nice, as you don’t feel a ton of vibration through the handle making it much easier to use for extended periods of time. This was the only model in-store that had that feature, so it was an additional selling point. Variable speed is a very nice option, making the tool more versatile, not many other models offer this feature. I didn’t use it for concrete grinding, but could definitely see it being useful for other applications. Some cons, the tool does not come with a bag or case and no storage on the tool for the arbor wrench or other parts, that’s about it. I cannot speak to how well the tool will hold up to long-term use, I’ve only owned it for a day, and only used it for about one hour of continuous use, but the quality appears to be there. A few notes on use, the after-market dust shield carried by Home Depot DOES NOT fit on the Bosch (despite what the package says) without removing a spring-loaded metal clasp which is for attaching the Bosch accessories. Even after removing the clasp, the dust shield doesn’t fit “well” – it took some tinkering… Bosch makes its own attachment which I would buy instead. Also, the grinder pulls 13 amps, which is quite a lot, enough to trip most residential breakers (most are 20 amps) IF you are running more than one tool off the same circuit at once, such as a vacuum, fan, and work light. I just ran an extension cord to the next room run on a different breaker circuit and was fine, but it’s worth noting. TLDR: Great Product, Great Value, worth the extra investment to have a more powerful tool, made in Germany, with a variable speed function and good ergonomics. Was the best grinder sold in-store at my location and would definitely recommend. Definitely worth the extra cost if you are looking for a tool that is capable of doing heavy work.

Needed slower speeds for some applications and this did the trick. Also like the paddle switch as it acts like a deadmans switch if the machine gets lose
