The Bosch GWS13-50VSP 5 in. angle grinder with lock-on paddle switch and variable speed, features a new 13 Amp motor design with direct motor cooling and more air vents. This feature reduces hand blockage to extend tool life and provide higher overload capabilities to prevent overheating. Results from independent testing revealed that Bosch grinders outlast the competition to deliver the best tool lifetime in the market up to 9 times more life than competitors. Improved carbon brushes offer more than double the lifetime of previous brushes, which means less downtime for maintenance. Additional features include a new patented multi-grip paddle switch and textured housing to provide increased grip options for better ergonomics and tool control. The first-to-the-market multi-grip paddle switch can now be operated in the front, middle and rear as opposed to only in the rear on old models allowing users to hold the grinder in any position.
- Powerful 13 Amp motor with constant electronic for fast work progress and high productivity
- Patented multi-grip paddle switch that allows multiple grip positions for optimal comfort and control
- Variable speed dial that provides the ability to adjust speed for specific applications
- Electronic clutch which shuts down the motor if the wheel gets into a sudden bind situation
- Overload protection that shuts off tool to reduce overheating and motor damage
- Constant response circuitry maintains constant speed under load
- Soft start reduces start-up torque to protect motor
- Restart protection protects against an automatic restart after a power interruption
- No-lock-on switch which allows the grinder to turn off when the switch is released
- Directed air flow diverts dust away from switch and vital components to extend tool life
- Large spindle lock for more convenience and easier change of accessories

I used a Ryobi 4.5 inch angle grinder and this one to remove paint and adhesive from a garage floor using a Diamabrush 4.5 in. Concrete Abrasive Removal Hand Tool and both worked really well. The difference was that the gearbox on Ryobi grinder got hot and some of the grease started coming out of the it. It still works fine. But the Bosch grinder stayed cooler. I don’t have dust shroud for the Bosch yet so i did make a big mess, but so would the Ryobi. The other plus to the Bosch was the variable speed, the Diamabrush 4.5 in. Concrete Abrasive Removal Hand Tool work just as well at slower speeds and the blade on it last longer too.Other difference are that the Bosch is tough to use with one hand, the body is much larger. The Ryobi was easier to run with one hand but the higher RPM’s make you pay attention. The power switch is a but stiff and almost requires two hands to engage. The accessories, handle and shroud are very nice. The handle is nice size and dampens the vibrations more so than on the Ryobi. The shroud is tool free to put on and adjust which is really nice. Only thing missing in an on tool storage location for the blade wrench. The bland wrench feel a little cheap on the Bosch compared to rest of the tool and compared to the Ryobi.

Great tool with plenty of power and speed. The variablr speed control allows you to really control how much material you remove.

Taking polyurethane off of wood cabin building housing 11 condos inside, worked like a champ. Running it for days straight with wood dust build up, and no problems, still working well

The tool has a nice assembly with twist-lock function for the guard and the “Bosch 18SG-5E Small Angle Grinder Concrete Surfacing Attachment” shroud. Has a smooth starting motor and the speed adjustment dial at the end of the handle.

Excellent quality, typical of Bosch. This is a variable speed grinder with 5 fixed speeds from low to high. There is no information what the speeds are other than max is 11500 rpm. My intended purpose was to use it with polishing wheels with max rpm of 3400. To use this grinder with polishing wheels, I found a short extension (2 1/2 inch) for the spindle that puts the wheel far enough out to clear the body of the tool.My only disappointment with this purchase is not the tool itself but with the shipping. This available on line only, not in stores. It arrived on time, but UPS had mangled the box in shipping and it arrived taped together. Fortunately there was no damage to the tool and no missing parts.

This grinder is powerful and versatile. It works smoothly and efficiently. After a day of going through a lot of wood, I felt like it absorbed a lot of the vibration. It’s extremely well made and when working with it, feels like a high quality tool. Well worth the money.

Variable speed is very useful with diamond cup on concrete. High speed on metal. Just great!

I considered the extra cost for the GWS13-50VS as an investment in future flexibility in what I’d be able to do with it and I think I made a good choice. I wanted to soften the high ridges at the joints in the concrete slab in our basement but concluded it wouldn’t be practical to get a 150-lb concrete grinder into the basement. I combined the GWS13-50VS with a Ridgid 5-inch diamond cup grinding wheel, a Dustless Technologies D1805 dust shroud, a DeWalt DXV09P shop vacuum, and a hose adapter from the Ridgid VT1755 adapter set. Although I can’t say it helped a lot, I even added a bullseye type bubble level to the flat surface at the top of the grinder using double-sided foam tape. The variable speed has been great. Running it towards the low end of the speed range keeps the household noise manageable and allows the DeWalt vacuum to keep up with the dust. There really has been no issue with dust at all. I typically ran the grinder in 30-minute or less sessions, shuffling the bag or swapping out the bag in the vacuum before each session, and then allowing the grinder and vacuum to cool off between sessions. A 10-inch straightedge was used to determine when the joints were reasonably flat and even. I’m sure the joints will be far less noticeable now when carpet tile gets installed later. There did seem to be a mechanical conflict between the clamp on the dust shroud and the guard release button on the Bosch. To get around that, I temporarily removed the spring loaded release mechanism from the Bosch.

Great grinder for a great price.

It was a gift and my husband seems happy with it.

It has exceeded my expectations. The variable speed makes it easier using the wire brush attachments. Changing the attachments is simple. It is better than the Dewalt unit it replaced and I liked the Dewalt.

I like the grinder and hope to use it to cut some metal soon. It is very easy to use , I need some additional options before I get full appreciation for it.

Between the movable guard and variable speed, this is my new go to grinder! No more single speed grinders EVER.

Like the variable speed, but hate the paddle switch.

This is really doing the job for me. I like the variable speed because not all applications require full speed.
