Although a very pricey machine I’m glad I bought it. My old random orbital palm sander left swirl marks in the wood when changing direction. Those swirl marks are very fine and don’t show until the wood has been stained; even wiping the wood down with mineral spirits on a rag prior to staining will not get those marks to show up. This Bosch non-random, strictly orbital, sander doesn’t leave the swirl marks. It’s also very quiet, covers more surface area with the much larger pad, and much easier to control than a random orbital unit. The dust collection cartridge works perfectly so I don’t need to bother with a shop-vac hose getting in the way or the noise of a shop-vac. The sandpaper attachment mechanism makes changing papers very easy and pulls out all the slack in them. Another huge plus is when needing to smooth very rough surfaces or removing old finishes, it’s nearly equal to the effectiveness and efficiency of a belt sander thus eliminating the chances of gouges with the latter. I’ve got five different types of electric sanders and many other power tools in my shop but am more pleased with this one than any other. It exceeded all my expectations and I’m delighted to recommend it.

After using the OS50VC for a month, I am very pleased. It provides aggressive sanding of flat surfaces with little risk of dips and valleys that I get when using a belt sander. Changing paper is easy, and dust control is good with the provided filter and superb with an attached shop vac. I especially like the simplicity of just using flat sheets of sandpaper, and not having to have all sorts of sanding discs.

Exactly what I was looking for. Quiet, clean and does the job. Great dust collection if hooked up to a shop vac. I highly recommend it.

Just what I needed for flattening out glued-up table tops.

This is a fine sander powerful, quiet, easy on the hands and to use, therefore makes sanding less of a task. But this sander is not the end all and needs work. The dust filter did not fasten well and fell off so many times the first use I threw it away. I hook up a shop vac and thank you for the attachments but on flat surfaces with 100% contact the sander starter to jump due to the high suction. There needs to be a suction control similar to the ring that covers a hole in the hose to relieve the excessive vacuum problem. The rear clamp red button could have been designed with more functionality to have a flat for pressing verse it now looks as if it should be pulled, it is minor but makes the difference of 5 stars verse 4.

I read the consumer reviews of the Bosch and the Makita half sheet sanders. I chose Bosch for this sander mainly because for the last several power tool purchases, I have chosen Bosch, and the power, features and durability have been beyond expectations. Now, DeWalt, Skil, Makita and Hitachi have all outsourced manufacturing to China in order to compete price wise on a world wide market. Let’s face it, China has labor regulations that completely favor the government, and if you lose your hand at the factory, they have a summary hearing, say it was your fault, and you are sent back to your remote village with only one hand and no way to support your family. So to me, it is important to avoid buying tools made in China if at all possible. Yes, you have to pay more. I don’t mind. In the long run, I not only feel better, but I can rest easy knowing the quality control was done by someone who actually cares about the end user’s safety and satisfaction for the product. So, although I have seen Bosch tools made in China or Southeast Asia, imagine my surprise when I discovered that this sander is made in Switzerland! Nice. Love that. Features of this sander: 1) anti vibration, 2) ergonomic handle designs, 3) their clamp designs for holding the sand paper are terrific, they hold the paper in place as if the paper were glued to the sander. 4) dust control includes fittings for use with either their tool exhaust filter or a vacuum. In this case, I own a Bosch Airsweep shop vacuum, so my hook up is seamless. They do include an exhaust/dust control adapter, although I have not used it. The sanding pad on the bottom of the sander has a large number of ports to suck dust from the work surface. 5) The sander has a robust exhaust flow though the rear chute (where the filter or the vacuum hose attaches). I was very surprised how strong the air was blowing out of there. 6) variable speed control works great, is very smooth and not jerky. 7) As with other Bosch electric tools, it has a LOT of power.

I do a lot of woodworking. While I am not a professional I spend several hours a day after work in my well outfitted garage shop. I own about half a dozen sanders – mostly Random orbit and a few belt sanders for heavy stock removal. Almost all of my sanding is done on virgin wood as I am not a fan of refinishing old pieces. This sander is absolutely amazing. As a preface, I use this for fine finishing grits only (220 and up). When used properly, not a single scratch mark is present. Even with very expensive ROS sanders, I still need to do a little massaging by hand after a mineral spirits wipe-down to reveal any imperfections. I french polish a lot of pieces and a flawless sanding finish is absolutely required. This leaves the smoothest finish I have ever experienced. I would liken the finish left more toward a cabinet scraper than one left by abrasives. The sander is also a pleasure to operate. The variable speed is sensitive and actually works – unlike a lot of sanders I have used where it is just a polite suggestion and barely affects the oscillations. Loading the paper is always a hassle in pad sanders and frankly the reason I have avoided them until now. This system is exceptionally easy to use. Lock in the back and the front lever properly tensions the paper and locks it securely. It is very simple. The soft pad is great and works very well for sanding profiled edges. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would rate dust extraction a solid 3.5 with a vacuum, about a 2 without. I have use some much more expensive ROS sanders that handle dust a bit better, but this is acceptable. As advertised, the vibration is almost not existent. This makes things both comfortable and is a large part of why the sander leaves such a nice finish. I also noticed it doesn’t “track” curly grain as much as others I have used. You won’t believe the difference this makes over even the best random orbit sander. Attached is a picture of an end grain cutting board which is notoriously difficult to sand, and a beautiful piece of curly oak that as been French polished. This is 100% worth the investment if you are looking for a flawless finish with no rework

I’m very impressed with the low vibration grips and the low noise level of this sander. The sanding rate is also impressive. I worried about the large plastic filter getting in the way. So far, it has not been a problem and it can be removed. The filter works great and is easy to empty and clean

Been making some items out of logs and this planer has saved countless hours of sanding to get the wood to the same level. Great investment

What a great tool, powerful, comfortable and changing the paper is a breeze. Dust collection is as good as I’ve seen. Highly recommended.

I was impressed whenI took the sander ou of the box, and thrilled the first several times that I used it. I told my wife that my first impression in using the sander was “where has this tool been all my life?” After using a couple of other brands, mostly cheaper models, I am SO happy that I decided to try a “better brand/model.” This tool is a pleasure to use. Dust control is excellent. Performance is exceptional – well worth the extra cost. Looking forward to years of satisfaction!

I got this sander for Christmas a year ago. I have really appreciated its ease of use and effectiveness. A real workhorse. I like being able to buy standard sandpaper from local suppliers. I highly recommend it.

This is a great half sheet sander that can’t be beat both for comfortable use and durability which I expect from Bosch. If you need the perfect half sheet sander that will last and always do its job this is it. I don’t expect anything less from Bosch

I wish Bosch would reissue their old half sheet sander, then I wouldn’t have to keep on rebuilding mine. What was different? The old model was geared to do 20,000 OPM.Awesome, but did run hot.
