With best-in-class impact energy at 6.1 foot pounds, the RH540M SDS-max Rotary Hammer is the hardest hitting and fastest drilling rotary hammer in its class. Delivering 38 percent more impact energy than previous generations and up to 20 percent more than competitors, the RH540M provides maximum productivity in all day drilling and chiseling applications. A variable speed dial for both drilling and chiseling applications allows users to adjust tool settings based on the application and material they’re tackling and a selector knob makes it easy to switch between hammer drilling, chiseling only and the Varo-Lock function. The Varo-Lock mechanism allows chisels to be rotated into 12 different positions to optimize working angles. The tools’ new, robust design keeps it working hard on jobsites. The RH540 tools both feature 12 amps and weigh just 14.2 pounds, delivering 1,200 to 2,750 blows per minute. Service minder brushes on the tools also keep them running at maximum capacity, as the tools clearly indicate when preventive maintenance is required. As with all Bosch SDS-max tools, the RH540M allows users to make tool-free bit changes with automatic bit locking and offers enhanced dust protection and maximum energy transfer rate.
- CONVENIENT – The Bosch RH540M Combo Rotary Hammer features the SDS-max Bit System for tool-free bit changes with automatic bit locking, dust protection and maximum impact energy transfer rate

This is an SDS Max Rotary Hammer, which differs from the smaller SDS Plus Rotary Hammer (see my video for a side by side comparison of the bits). This is a heavy tool (14.2 pounds), it has to be to be able to provide a whopping 6.1 ft. lbs of impact energy and deliver 1,200 to 2,750 blows per minute. The tool-free bit changes, and automatic bit locking, make for fast setup and swap out of bits. The bit rotates and locks into 12 different positions, and the variable speed ensures the right speed for the job.The ancillary handle is fully adjustable to any of 360 degrees around the tool.Where using a chisel to lift old tiles, or a drill bit to power through masonry, this bad boy has the power to do it all, and much more.

Bought this tool about 2 weeks ago, have not had and opportunity to really use it. But the little I have been able to do, I am very happy and satisfied with its performance.

This tool is smoother than I was expecting it to be. It is well balanced and easy to use. It carves concrete into powder (with the chisel bit) rather than blowing things up into shrapnel like I initially assumed it would. Great tool!

A great tool for handling medium to small jobs. Not too heavy. An adapter is extra if you need lower grade bits. If you’re on the road to geezerly, it fits the bill perfectly

The 120-Volt 1-9/16 in. SDS-Max Rotary Hammer is a wonderful tool to own. It does not come with any bits and they are kind of expensive. We chose a spade bit for our first use. Our ground is so hard that it is impossible to dig in. This tool made it look like butter. We will have some concrete work to do at some point in the near future and this will come in really handy. It has variable speeds and can be switched between rotary/hammer and just hammer. It’s very easy to change the bits. It is a little heavy for a woman (at least for me) but my husband loves it. It also comes in a very nice case to keep it protected when not in use. It probably is more for the professional but we love it for our DIY homeowner needs.
