I have used it for hours in cedar projects around my home and it worked great. We had a rigid too but this worked far better. It was my house painting job that I truly dreaded. All the trim scraping was going to be a nightmare. I used this sander and course sandpaper and even the worst was a breeze. My helpers thought I spent hours on prepping. Wrongly.

Haven’t used it yet but will follow up when I do I’ll let people know hopefully works as great as reviewsUsing it on a hull of a 22′ sailboat

Very nice sander. Vibration control is great. A little pricy but worth every penny.

I bought this sander for the vibration control setting and I really like it. Less vibraton is felt in your hands and it sands really fast. A great tool.

I had high expectations and it is a good dander. The pad went out after a few uses and the sandpaper does not stick very well. Now I have to order additional pads which takes time since Home Depot does not stock the pads. Also, I have difficulty with the “continuous run” button- maybe because I am left handed.

What a sweet sander! had a Makita. The Bosch blows it out of the water! Good speed control, and it floats like a butterfly. Definitely recommend this tool.

My previous sander finally died and I started the hunt for a new ROS. I settled on the ROS65VC-5 and couldn’t be happier. Dust collection is superb – I have mine hooked up to a dust extractor. I am not lying when I say that after sanding through a grit, there is NO sawdust left on the workpiece. None… wow!The anti-vibration feature really does work. It is not completely vibration-free, but it is VERY significantly reduced from other sanders. -No more “tingly-hand” after sanding.I am very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend it!

A mixed bag of plusses and minuses. But overall a strong plus. Pros – the vibration dampening system is great. Compared to my 30 year old Makita it’s light years ahead. Variable speed is good. Very well balanced. Heavier weight is great for horizontal surfaces. The removable front handle is good for using as a palm sander. Cons – It’s quite a bit larger than a palm lander but that’s OK. It still can be used that way though it’s a bit heavy, but manageable, on vertical surfaces. The excentric bearing clogged up after about 3 hours of sanding paint off of a boat. I don’t think it’s a sealed bearing. Not a big problem to blow out and that fixed the problem. Figure on doing that periodically, I didn’t use the dust filter since I was sanding paint out side. I bought this to replace the 30 year old Makita. All things considered I’m very happy with the purchase. I slowly converting all of my corded and battery pack tools to Bosch. I’ve been buying the mid to upper line of products and so far I haven’t bought anything I really don’t like.

Just received 5″ sander the day I had some sheetrock mud to sand. So nice not to have a lot of vibration and have my hands tingle. Vacuum port worked well. When I had to go up the ladder and work overhead I switched back to the smaller Porter Cable 5″ sander to use one handed at full extension and I needed to hold the vac hose because it would fall off. That created more dust in the air.I was very pleased with the Bosch sander and look forward to many years of using it on wood standing on the floor!

I bought this sander because I was fed up with my single-speed palm sander. The brake was shot and the sander was so tiring to use. I replaced the brake, but the sander just wasn’t the same as when first purchased. I looked into Festool sanders, but at twice the price I couldn’t justify over this Bosch. I am very pleased with this purchase. The sander is much quieter, much easier to control, has far superior dust collection (have not tried hooking into the shop vac yet), and much minimized vibration. Overall a pleasure to use. The Bosch is larger than a palm sander, which could be a drawback in some situations. It comes with an attachment to connect to a shop vac, but no hard case or bag. I tend to like cases so I can keep the sander and pads all together. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to move on from 5″ palm sanders.

The Bosch sander is great, but Home Depot shipped the sander in Bosch box alone. It was not packed inside a larger box with padding. As a result, the Bosch box and sander took a beating in shipment!

The sander was everything I hoped it would be.

I’ve been told be people (one of whom worked as a professional cabinet-maker) that this sander is “the quietest sander I’ve seen). This is a plus for appartment living. It seems to work very well – I’ve not yet given it much use -but I will be using it plenty soon.

I bought this sander about 6 months ago, and prior to that I had a nice yellow 5″ ROS – it was fine, but bare bones with a ton of vibration, and it took me a while to decide that the cost of the new Bosch was worth it… and it was worth every penny! If you’ve ever had tingling fingers after a sanding session, this will take care of that problem. You can comfortably hold this sander several ways: holding the front and back handles simultaneously, or with just one hand on the top of the sander. The dust collection is amazing. When sanding in a finished space, I use the canister and produce very little dust; when sanding in my shop, I use a shop-vac and the suction is so strong that I need to hold workpieces down to avoid picking them up with the sander. The 5 variable speeds cover every sanding situation I encounter, from slow sanding for finish & edge sanding on soft woods, to highest speed for more aggressive sanding. Last time I checked, you could buy a 6″ kit to convert this to a 6″ sander – I have not done that yet. My only complaint is that I wish it was easier to find adapters for the dust port – I have ordered 3, and only one fits. But really it’s by far the best sander I’ve ever even touched.

Worth the money. Nice to be able to switch between 5″ & 6″ pads.

The sander has very low vibration and is slightly bulky, also the sanding pad spins when you lift it off the wood therefore when you set it back on you can sand a groove into the wood very easily.

I bought this a few weeks ago while I was making 3 large 4’x20″x8′ cabinets for a client. The client was persnickity about the finish and I needed a ROS to quickly sand sheets of presanded 150 grit 3/4 plywood to 180 grit after priming then to 220 grit prior to the second coat of oil based paint. It did the job very well and quickly. I used water based primer which raised some of the wood grain after drying. This gave me the allowed me the opportunity to remove all these wood particle which would have caused problems for my finish. I used 180 grit sand paper at this point and only had to go over the the plywood once using a 50% overlap technique on my previous sanding pass. I wasn’t too particular with my 50% pass and it still performed well. Some things I did for dust collection. First I have the good fortune of a large carport to sand outside and let mother nature remove some of the dust for me. Second I used a shop vacuum with a hose extension taped to the handle (see picture). This set up eliminated the cord from dragging across the larger sheets of wood. Each time I changed the sanding disc I used compressed air to blow out the hook & loop pad and the dust collection holes. I also would stick the air nozzle in one of the holes and rotate the sanding pad. This would clean out the internal blades and make dust collection efficient for the entire project. This was probably the key to having very little dust flying around the shop. Many times I worked at night and had all the doors to the shop closed – I only used the compressed air outside when cleaning the ROS.The ROS was key to the very nice finish on the cabinets, so much so the client ordered 5 more

I bought this sander based on a review in a wood working magazine. They had done a test where they set a cup of water on top of the sander while it was running and there was barely a ripple. I thought no way, but after using it I have to say it really is that good. The way the motor is insulating from the housing negates almost all vibration. You can hear it going, you can tell it should be buzzing in your hand but it’s totally still. You have the movement of the pat whirling around but you don’t get the buzz like you normally do from random orbit sanders/mice and the like.I used some of the diablo universal discs and the suction still works just great, so you don’t have to worry about finding the 8 hole pads, I can imagine it’ll be even more dust free when I get the dust collector hooked up.The fore grip is easily removable with an included bit so if you’re having to get into some tight edges you can just knock that right off the front and hold it on the top or rear. The variable speed works great. I’m not a professional sander so I don’t know what all speeds need to be used for what materials but it does vary the speed reliably.Either way, if you’re looking for a random orbit sander, consider this your buy. You can buy the 6″ pad for it as well or even get the kit which comes both the 5″ and 6″ a nice box if you like, but like she says “the 5″ is good enough for me.”

I bought this model to replace it’s predecessor that I have owned for 20 years. The older model still works but not as smoothly and is pretty tired. The current model is superior in strength, power, stability, and accessories.
