After 6 months I replaced our filter with the same GE filter I had been using (FXUVC). The water tasted lousy, so I got another GE filter thinking maybe the first one was defective. Same result. I decided to try the Brita USF-104. Problem solved. I’ll be using the Brita filter from now on.

Ordered replacements. I have 2 of these in series. Redundancy for additional peace of mind. Unnecessary, I know. The second filter still looked new in spite of being over 6 months in use. Water looks, smells and tastes like nothing but water. I highly recommend. Effective and good value.

It turned out that this was the wrong filter for my system but would work if needed. I may try this one next time I need to change the filter.

I picked this one up since it’s labeled Level 4 and costs less than half as much as the GE FXUVC which is no longer available at my local Home Depot. Comparing their Performance Data Sheets shows that while they both reduce the same contaminants, the GE FXUVC reduces some of them to a much larger degree.I had a brand new GE FXUVC on hand and the GE felt heavier so I weighed them both on my digital kitchen food scale. The GE FXUVC is 17 oz and the Brita USF-104 is 14.5 oz and the outer construction is different. Also, the Brita is rated for 400 gallons for most contaminants while the GE is rated for 500 gallons. So while the Brita still looks like a good filter, they don’t appear to be the same filter with different labels as I’d hoped.

I hope so it does what it says it will do, but the filters are way to expensive.
