This whole house GAC filter cartridge is very similar to the Whirlpool filters I’ve been using for the last few years. I had to look up what GAC meant: Granulated Activated Charcoal. The Whirlpool cartridges have rectangular grooves that run from top to bottom of the cartridge (I suspect to put more surface area in contact with the water flowing through it) whereas this Brita cartridge has smooth sides. Both cartridges are rated for up to 6 months use between filter changes. Unlike the boxed Whirlpool filters that include a little peal-n-stick tag where you can mark the date when the filter should be changed again, the Brita only includes the unboxed filter cartridge wrapped in plastic.Since I had just replaced the whole house filter in my pump house before this Brita cartridge arrived, I won’t be able to find out for another six months how well this filters the contaminants out of my well water. At roughly 2/3 the price of these Brita filters, I feel the Whirlpool filters are a better value.
