Compact and fully-featured, the HL-L2390DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer from Brother will find itself welcome in both the home or small offices. An all-in-one design makes it a great choice for space-conscious offices as it fits printing, scanning, and copying within a single unit. Also, the printing capabilities are very good with a max resolution of 2400 x 600 dpi and print speeds of up to 32 ppm. The printer can also work with documents up to 8.5 x 14″ in size using the 250-sheet input tray or one-sheet manual feed slot.
Scanning and copying is made possible through the inclusion of an 8.5 x 11.7″ flatbed. Also, an optical resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi ensures that scans are detailed and sharp. For operation, the HL-L2390DW has a two-line monochrome LCD for checking current status and settings. Additionally, it features Wi-Fi connectivity, alongside standard USB 2.0, for completely wireless operation and support for direct printing from mobile devices.

Wireless setup was confusing and cumbersome. I’m pretty smart and this was not easy.

Installed on a computer running Debian. Over the years Brother has stripped the installation to the bare minimum. I installed the drivers intended for use with CUPS. Then did the same for the scanner driver for use with SANE. You then use your particular desktop’s utility for installing the printer, or the CUPS Web interface. The scanner needs no further installation. I tested with Simple Scan and XSANE. I used a USB connection, and have no comment on the wireless capabilities. From working with other Brother printers, I strongly recommend a fixed IP address for the printer.

We’re snow birds so have two. The other, up North one is a 2540. Both work just great. Easy to connect. Will reserve final judgement on this one in Phoenix to see if the toner cartridge is ok after the summer heat.

Pretty easy set-up and since then, nearly trouble free. Networked for home personal/business use, and access via three computers is working well. Fast printing, excellent quality. Only negative is the relatively high cost of OEM toner. Have bought one from Brother and am experimenting now with a third party vendor. First shipment was not recognized by the printer, but the replacement had a chip that appears to be working fine, with no change in quality.
