If you plan only to print–and do little else–this is a very competent device. Speed and clarity of text printing is good (I haven’t printed pictures, so I can’t evaluate that). And setup was pretty straightforward for printing. BUT–this is a multi-function device, and you’ve paid for a multi-function device, so all of the functions should work equally as well. They do not. 1. Copying: copies of text are quite good. However, it is literally decades since I’ve had a printer that produces copies in reverse order. If you frequently want to put more than 2-3 pages into the document feeder, you’ll find it really irritating to re-sort and put the copies in order before stapling–and really annoying if you forget to do so before stapling. Also, I don’t know the last time I’ve had a printer at home or at work that requires the pages to be placed face down rather than up. I guess eventually I’ll get used to this but in the meantime (two months in), I keep messing up from force of long habit. 2. Fax: Yes it faxes, but there’s no automatic way to know that it’s done so! No message on the screen that the fax has been sent successfully, no automatic printing of a fax report, AND no way to set the machine to do these things. Each time you’ve tried to fax, you’ll need to hit several buttons to reach the print fax-report button. Which means that you have to go through that process each time just to find out that someone’s fax didn’t pick up, or that their line was out of order or…. That’s absurd. This is bad enough that I’m actually thinking of getting rid of the machine and buying an HP again. 3. Scan: I found it very tricky to find the setup that would allow me to use the machine’s touchpad to initiate scans. And no matter what, it refuses to produce my scans as PDFs, only as JPGs that I then have to convert to PDF. Scan to OCR? Forget it. That’s after following the instructions in the manual, searching the Brother site for further instructions and following them to a T. Nothing doing. All in all–I started out writing this review having given the machine 3 stars, but as I wrote, I realized that the only thing I’m satisfied with is printing, and that what I’ve written is a 2-star report. So that’s what I’ve wound up giving it. If you rarely fax or scan or copy multi-page documents, you’ll be happy with the printer.

I upgraded (stepped up my game!) and impressed. I was tired of buying cartridges and the ink on this lasts such a long time. My only ‘wish’ is that the paper tray held more paper.

I like the machine, it does everything I need it to do. The only thing that is kind of a pain is when I want to print a single envelope or print checks the individual feed is on the back of the machine and it is kind of a pain to do. Other than that everything is working well.

This printer is a dream to own and operate. Easy to setup, fits a small space, and the controls are intuitive. Best of all, I’m printing a lot and not using an excessive amount of ink. Love the front usb port and I’m not reliant upon an app. Would highly recommend this printer for any home office.

I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. The brother MFC-J995DW is definitely an upgrade from previous home devices that my husband and I have encountered. The printer currently resides in my husbands home office. Below are the pros and cons that my husband and I encountered with the setup and use of the device. Pros:-While the initial setup seemed quite lengthy, the instructions were straight to the point and easy to comprehend.-The touchscreen features make navigating the device and its multiple features and settings quick and simple compared to other devices.-The paper count makes large printing projects less of a hassle and helps eliminate the need for frequent and multiple trips to reload paper. – The ink output and clarity appeared good when printing in both color and black and white.-We were very impressed at how easy it was to immediately connect our various devices to the printer without any hiccups or issues when using the wireless feature. My husband and I rely heavily on wireless capabilities so this was definitely our favorite feature. -The printer is fairly quiet for its size.Cons:-Loading paper seemed to be a tad tedious since you are to load paper within the device. -For some reason, I was unable to access any information online pertaining to the model when trying to conduct additional research on its uses and features. – The device has multiple ink cartridges and while this may not be a major con, you should definitely keep this in mind when the time comes to restock. Overall, this printer is a great addition to our home and we are pleased with how easy the device was to set up and immediately begin use. The only minor improvement that my husband and I would suggest would be the method of loading the paper.

Simple to set up. All features seem to work exactly as advertised. It looks like the ink is really going to last as promised, and it’s great to be able to print so easily from a phone.

This printer was easy to set up. The screen walks you through the process. The ink tanks are huge. The prints are very good, nice color, crisp text. And it handled a wide variety of media. My dad has a color laser printer that will basically only print on thin media (plain paper thickness). This printer just finished printing 60 pages on 110lb card stock, then right back to 20 pages on plain paper. I would definitely buy this printer again.

After hours of research, I selected the Brother MFC-J995W printer to replace my 10 year old HP Deskjet printer. In the 3 months I have owned it, this printer has exceeded my expectations. It is fast, and the text and graphics quality are as good as I could have hoped for. Unlike my old printer, the Brother printer sips ink instead of guzzling it, as indicated by the handy status app. The user interface allows you to select from standard print profiles or create your own; you can quickly choose the best profile for the current job, based on print quality, color or grayscale, single or double-sided printing, etc. A real time-saver. The scanning is a bit on the slow side, but that is the only negative in an otherwise exceptional product.

Excellent printer. I have used all the features and they perform flawlessly. The machine was easy to set us, is relatively fast and the output is very good!

The Brother printer does everything I need a multifunctional printer to do, and it does each well. My only complaint is that it is loud.

Printer was easy to set up, and works perfectly so far.

I had an HP printer and scanner previously. The printer worked sometimes and the scanner never worked. I wasted many hours with HP Customer Support. Also I was in th automatic ink refill program and they sent me the wrong ink. The Brother’s printer and scanner work every time.

Printer works well and I like the color results. The status monitor has trouble starting the first time the computer is booted after being powered down.
Reynold Mitchell (verified owner) –
Nice little unit but nothing is easy; set up, trying to print legal….

I have had a brother fax only before years ago. It work for over 15 years until I nneded a drum finally. So just got a cheaper item instead. The cheaper item stopped scanning and would not fax so got this unit. It does not disappoint at all. The Brother name is a1 in my book. And I notice does not use as much ink either.

It’s faster than my older MFC model, printing with clarity, scanner to PC is easy and love the mobile printing feature. It’s slightly louder when printing. I’m not printing manuals so it’s not too much of a factor

After reviewing all brands in this category, I went with this model because it serves all of my needs.
