This dutch oven is gorgeous to look at with its simple aesthetic and its brushed finish. I was truly excited to use it as soon as I got it so I tolerated the cons and thought of them as “character”. The heat proof rubber like handles are a nice touch if you never want to exceed 400 degrees in the oven, the lid is not secure and with the dutch ovens flared rim the lid slides back and forth. This product also does not have a weighted bottom and with use on an electric or conductive stove you really feel the product slip and slide. However, it is able to do any normal task you need it to do.

Recently Calphalon sent me one of their new dutch ovens for review purposes. I’m a food blogger and spend a great deal of time in the kitchen, so I was really able to put it through its paces.I’ve found that out of all of my cookware this dutch oven is one of the most versatile pieces that I own. I can use it for quick weeknight meals like pasta, soup, and chili or toss it in the oven and make roast beef or chicken that positively melts in your mouth. The 5 quart size is absolutely perfect whether you’re cooking for 2 or 8. Plus it weighs considerably less than a stock pot, which means I’m more likely to pull it out of my cabinet to cook with when I’m in a hurry. If you’re a fan of one-pot cooking this dutch oven is a great choice, just keep in mind that because of the silicone handles this pot is only oven safe to 400°F. I’ve had to adjust the cooking temperatures for some of my favorite recipes. If you’re considering a move from an enamel-lined cast iron dutch oven to something of a more manageable weight there are a few things you may want to consider, especially if you enjoy to making jam, jelly, or preserves. The low sides and wide bottom are wonderful for cooking down fruit (or even tomato-based sauces) but the bottom of this pot is very thin, so things like preserves or sauces tend to burn a little easier. While I love this pot for everyday cooking, it isn’t going to be my first choice for these types of dishes.

I have owned the Select SS 5 quart Dutch Oven with Cover for less than a month, but have had a couple chances to use it. It’s a nice size for me to use when cooking soup or a one-pot casserole for my family of six, with at least a couple of servings leftover.I like the low profile of this Dutch Oven. It is only about 4 and a half inches tall, but is wide. I prefer using it to my taller Dutch Oven because I think my food cooks more evenly in the shorter Dutch Oven. This Dutch Oven can even go into the oven up to 400 degrees. It’s also dishwasher safe, though I prefer to handwash all my pots and pans, especially the bigger ones like this. But at least the dishwasher is an option if I’m in a hurry and don’t feel like doing the dishes. There are 2 comfort grip (black material) handles, one on each side of the Dutch Oven. I like that they stay cool to the touch, because I can pick them up straight off the stove top without using gloves. I do wish that the handles were a little big bigger and thicker. That would help make it even easier for me to get a good grip on them.Other than that, I think this is a versatile size Dutch Oven that would work great in any kitchen. I am also a fan of the see-through tempered glass cover. I like being able to see what’s going on inside the Dutch Oven without having to take the cover off the pot. The cover also has a nice, Stay Cool comfort grip handle. This Dutch Oven is made from durable stainless steel for even heating and feels like it will last many years. I like that it has a Full 10 Year Warranty. It looks and feels like a very nice, light to medium-weight stainless steel Dutch Oven.I think this Dutch oven would be a nice addition to a starter set of cookware and also a great way for anyone who wants to upgrade to Stainless Steel cookware at a budget-friendly price point. While I received this product for free, the opinions and thoughts included in this review are my own.

I have been looking for a replacement for my old pasta and soup pot and I have found it with Calphalon Select 5 quart stainless steel dutch oven with a glass cover! The dutch oven is made from stainless steel, which allows for more even distribution of heat. The pot is also dishwasher safe, though I usually hand wash my pots and pans to ensure longevity. No worries here since the pot is easy to clean. The glass cover is a must-have feature for me because I can check on the meal without lifting the lid and letting air escape. The comfort grip handles on the dutch oven and the cover are stay-cool. Even with Medium-High heat, I could still grab the handles without burning myself.I do wish the handles were a little wider. I have petite hands, but someone with larger hands might have some issues with the smaller handles. The 5 quart size is perfect for my family of 3. I usually like to have leftovers and the size of the dutch oven allows for that. I have cooked pasta and chili with this pot so far. This dutch oven was able to cook a regular box of pasta. Chili was also easy to make. I browned the ground beef with some olive oil and then added the rest of the ingredients. The dutch oven performed as expected in cooking the pasta and the chili. The stainless steel dutch oven is oven-safe for up to 400 F, so I will be testing that out. I think it would be great to keep something warm in the oven or to braise in the oven.I love the dutch oven so far and can see myself using it for many different meals.Disclosure: I received the product to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own and are honest.

This dutch oven looks beautiful and heavy. The rubberized handles helps us to remove it from the hot oven. works well for the electric gas stove and oven too. Overall a good buy.

In the past I’ve avoided stainless steel pans because they made me nervous and boy have I been missing out! This Dutch Oven heats and cooks so perfectly it actually makes cooking fun! It is the perfect size for soups, pasta and even stir fry! Clean up is my favorite part as I can just pop it in the dishwasher! It can even go in the oven due to the tempered glass cover! This pan is so heavy duty I know it will last me for years and years! I will be working on switching all of my pans over to Calphalon Stainless Steel. Amazing pan, amazing quality.I received this product to test out for free, however the opinions and thoughts included in this review are my own.
