This is a well made hatchet, with good balance and a nice sharp edge to it. The weight in my hand is good. The handle is a little small for me, but fits much better with a glove on.

Love the Camillus Ravenous Hatchet. It’s sharp right out of the packaging. Very handy in different situations although you’re not going to be using it to take down any large trees or anything. It’s too light and the blade is on the smaller side for any large chopping. The edges of the spear point on the back are not sharpened but I don’t have any problems with that. I’d say the spear point is probably more of a fighting thing maybe. This hatchet would be a great emergency axe if you’re out camping and it’s your only axe to process small wood pieces for a fire. It’s also has a good blade on it that can be used as a knife if you need one. Works well with all types of cutting tasks. The belt loop on the nylon sheath fits my inch and a half belt fin however my belt is very thick and I can only put the sheath on my belt without the hatchet inside. Once it’s on my belt I have no problem getting the hatchet in the sheath and snapping it shut.

Way smaller than anticipated. Handle is short and appears more like a toy than a tool. Blade seems nice though.

I used my hatchet a few times and love it it is light weight and feels real good in my hand while I’m using it, I just wish the hatchet head was alittle bigger, the other end opposite the hatchet blade is very useful also, I used it to chip ice the other day and works great and I’m sure I’ll find other uses for it down the road. Excellent for camping.

received axe and started using it the following day. It is light weight and well made. the blade was very sharp and the haft fit the hand well. It is well balanced and is great for splitting kindling or cutting small trees or removing limbs. The sheath is well made and fits a belt well.

The modern tomahawk evolved from the stone blades used by pre-European arrival Algonquian Indians and later the ones used in the late 60’s & early 70’s by the U.S. military in the Vietnam War. They have a rich history of use as tools and weapons. The Ravenous Hatchet is a descendant of those ‘hawks. While I had no helicopters to breach, I used the Ravenous for a camp axe, replacing a heavier conventional hatchet. It performs most camp chores such as limb trimming, firewood splitting and kindling shaving with ease.Lightweight and easier to carry on belt or the outside of a backpack, I found it to very useful and the edge holds up well.
