The Canon Semi-gloss Photo Paper is the best paper I’ve used for this price range. I’ve used it for an exhibition, sold prints printed on this paper, family photos, etc, when art papers weren’t practical. The Canon Pixma Pro printers can only make borderless prints with their own brand photo papers, using their Print Studio Pro plugin, which gives it an advantage over other papers. Colors print well on the paper, but not as vibrant as the fine art papers I’ve used. Compared with the glossy photo paper also sold by Canon, the SG paper has the right amount of gloss. The printed photo doesn’t come out as reflective as the glossy paper, which in my opinion, makes it better to put on display or in places with stronger lighting. The SG paper is very lightly textured, which makes it a good all-purpose paper. I’ve first used this paper a year ago, and it’s still my first option when it comes to prints! Below are some photos I’ve printed, angled on purpose to show how much reflection there is from the cheap fluorescent lighting in my…office. The light is more diffused on the SG paper but sharp on the glossy.

I give this 4 stars as I have nothing to compare it to. I wanted to try a non-glossy paper that wasn’t 100 percent matte. The colors are good. Sharpness is good. Overall I like it. I use it with the Canon Pixima Pro9000 Mark II.

Canon SG-201 Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss (17 x 22″, 25 Sheets) is calibrated to the Pro-1000 Canon Printer by the paper number of SG-201. So manual calibration is not a necessary thing to do. I do calibrate with my x-rite colormonki as a check and see no difference.
