Featuring large integrated ink tanks that produce approximately 7700 color pages or 6000 black and white pages, the PIXMA G1220 MegaTank Inkjet Printer from Canon is designed for people who need to quickly print both text documents and photos. The printer produces sharp images at resolutions up to 4800 x 1200 dpi, and pigment-based black ink helps keep small font text sharp and readable. Complementing its ink capacity and print quality is its efficiency, with the printer offering black print speeds of 9.1 ppm and 5 ppm for color.
The PIXMA G1220 supports several paper sizes from 4 x 6″ to 8.5 x 14″, and a long document print feature enables you to print documents and banners up to 8.5 x 47.2″. Borderless printing is available for sizes up to 8.5 x 11″, and dye-based colors offer rich and vivid colors with sharp details. For media handling, the printer comes with a rear input tray that holds up to 100 sheets of plain paper, as well as a retractable output tray on the front.

It talks to my Mac and it prints. It has huge ink reservoirs, unlike its Epson predecessor. It doesn’t waste space with a unneeded scanner. B&H – you shouldn’t ask for review so quickly; it’ll take a couple years to determine if it’s any good.

The PIXMA G1220 replaced my old HP printer when pricey new ink cartridges dried out so quickly and lost color quality. As other reviewers mentioned, it can be noisy when ink is re-setting, mostly btw prints with color. I mostly use for home business & store it when not in use. So noise not an issue for me. Overall, I am happy with the print quality for documents & photos. I did print a couple of photos with borders that came out with wet ink but most photos printed well. The PIXMA G1220 prints quickly. I do not need a scanner/copier, just a quality printer that works reliably when I need it. I like being able to replace individual ink color as needed. So far so good but it is too new to comment on any ink issues that may come up.

For years I have wanted a stand-alone single purpose printer that was easy to set up and use, printed color images in their true colors, held enough economical ink to last a while and was easy to refill. I had long ago given up on that wish with the trend toward multi-function hard to use machines. When I found the Canon PIXMA G1220 Mega Tank Inkjet Printer my first thought was -Could this be it? The short answer is- yes. With this printer, I have found what I have been looking for. It is everything I could want in a printer. A bottle of ink lasts about 30 times longer than the usual replaceable cartridge, and the cost of a bottle is less than one of those smaller capacity cartridges. The transparent ink tanks show at a glance the ink level. It produces a color image which is the best I have ever been able to do up to his point. Thank You Canon.

Great printer, but purchasers should know that the G1220 DOES NOT HAVE A SCAN CAPABILITY. Other than that, the machine is great. Note that Amazon is selling G1220 machines with one or more photos of a G2260 which does scan. (Note: if control buttons are on the top left, you are not looking at a G1220.)
