With a soft luster finish, this Photo Paper Pro Luster from Canon, available here as a 50-pack of 13 x 19″ sheets, will provide a slightly textured surface that resists both glare and fingerprints while offering great color saturation and contrast. I used this paper for a photo show of framed prints. They turned out just plain stunning. The only complaint I have is that to use the full 13X19 sheets, one needs to have expensive custom frames made. I used frames and matting with 12X14 inch openings, so waste some paper.

I have used this before, and I wanted to print my photographs that are going to a local art gallery. Because of our recent move to the area, I could not find the 2 boxes I had, and it was easier to order a fresh box from B & H Photo. As soon as I got them, I turned on my Canon Pixma Pro-10 printer and printed the photographs. Needless to say, the colors were fantastic and certainly worthy of the gallery. I like the Luster surface, which does not show fingerprints; texture is somewhat like a shiny version of semi-matte.

I just purchased a Canon Pixma Pro-100 earlier this year and I’m not experienced with photo printing, but I got this Luster paper as well as a Glossy version of the same paper. I am making test prints of some of my photographic images so that I can make editing adjustments before I send the images to a professional printer. The prints I’m doing at home are pretty nice though – really surprised me (that is the printer mainly). I really like and prefer the Luster paper for most of my images so far. I do a variety of styles including astro-landscape, landscape, ICM landscapemacro nature, and flower closeups in a still life studio setting. With the flower closeups and landscape/ICM the Luster finish is best for me. I like that smoother finish. I use the Glossy mainly for astro and astro-landscape. I’m a serious amateur still learning a lot. I really love that I can now print at home to critique my images and my post-processing before spending for professional-printed photos. And now I can hang some of my own prints (from the Pixma) around my studio for inspiration. Sorry that I cannot provide a comparison between this and other papers yet. The only issue I had with this paper was actually due to the packing for shipment, not the paper itself. This is a long paper and it was packed in a box that was probably 1.5 shorter than the paper, so the paper box was placed in the box at an angle with airbags under and on top of it however both of my big packs of paper ended up with bent corners because of that. I notified B and H so that hopefully they’ll use a larger box to ship it, but other buyers should beware of this just in case. Since these are test prints for me, I didn’t ask for an exchange but this would likely matter to other photographers, and when I buy more of this paper, which I will, I want it shipped flat.

Ive been using this paper for four years now, making limited edition prints for sale, and so far it has been fine. The ink from my Canon PRO-100 printer seems to dry quickly on the surface (never had any smudge – although I am careful not to stack freshly printed images). No sign of any fading or discolouration in any of my images. Not cheap but very good value if you can get it on sale.
